Farming and Friends Changelog 3/5/21

Farming and Friends changelog [March 2021]

What’s new?

  • Codebase Cleanup

    • As we look to expand our team, we decided to fully rewrite some of our core systems. This was a huge undertaking for a game as complex as Farming and Friends, but this will be worth it going forward because we will be able to hire more programmers! This will help us speed up development and bring more impactful updates to the game.
  • New Player Experience Revisited

    • As the game grows, it was becoming more obvious that the tutorial is lacking in many ways. We have made a completely new tutorial with a new interface including a gif window. New players will be able to see exactly what is expected of them in each step. We have also eliminated the pops up and replaced them with a nice, clean checklist.
    • We have also adjusted the prices of various vehicles, equipment, and tools.
      • Lowered the price of all level 2 equipment
      • Lowered the price of the chainsaw
      • Lowered the Small Animal Trailer’s level (so it could be pulled by a level 1 tractor)
      • A few other small adjustments
  • Trees

    • We now have 2 new trees
      • Pine is one of the lowest costing seeds in the game. This will allow newer players to get into trees earlier than in previous versions.
      • Birch is one of the highest profiting crops in the game
      • Tree Optimizations
        • We are experimenting with the unloading of trees that are far away and replacing them with images of the tree. We are hoping this increases performance and can be continued onto all crops.
  • Equipment

Summary

While this might not be our biggest update in terms of content, it may be our biggest update in terms of securing the future of the game. As mentioned above, we have cleaned up a large amount of our code, making it easier to bring on new programmers. This is vital if we want to keep Farming and Friends going for years to come. We have also revamped our tutorial. This was long overdue. We have rarely run ads since the very beginning of the game. This is due to our terrible drop-off rate during the tutorial. With new players having a much better experience getting into, and understanding, the game, we can now run ads and work on other marketing to bring more faces to the Farming and Friends community. That being said, stay tuned for the next update. It has been a long-requested one.
