FBX Exporting Option

There’s quite literally no reason to not have it in 2024. Roblox please introduce this feature

Yes yes yes we really need this and would be super helpful, especially so I can re-import rigs into Blender. It’s very hard for me when this feature has not become available for these many years. Please add this Roblox

Still waiting for this … Why do they only allow obj until now? this feature is sooo necessary, we need fbx exporting, hoping Roblox staff gives a check to this request

2025 still no fbx export option. Roblox please add this feature…

It’s actually kinda irritating that Roblox prioritizes small things and things no one asked for, yet they can’t even do this update because they’ve been “looking into it” for

6 YEARS.

2025 and still no FBX export option… that’s crazy. Come on Roblox, get with the times already.

I find it frustrating that roblox has support for fbx import but no support for fbx export, i find this to be very frustrating with development. Like why have an FBX import option for animations if there isn’t a way to export FBX rigs.

This is the industry standard as many other engines utilize the fbx file format.

Alright… this just saved me a lot of time. I tried exporting multiple models into Blender only to find that you cannot export them as an FBX. I need all the parts split but exporting them one by one was not going to work nor would it work for most developers out there, here’s how I got around it:

  1. Export the models as .obj from Roblox

  1. Go into Blender and import your model

  1. Switch to the modeling tab at the top of the screen

  1. then click ‘A’ on your keyboard then ‘P’ by itself and select “By loose parts” and everything will be separated like it is in Roblox!

so, until Roblox decides to give us a useful update, this is decently easy!

It’s crazy that this was a feature request back in 2019 and still… Roblox has done nothing

Unfortunately, this isn’t a perfect solution either. When importing objs from studio, models seemingly get split by hard edges and uv seams.

I believe the only ‘perfect’ solution will be Roblox adding FBX exporting. Until then, we must make the best of what we have.

To be fair, the animation importer has been incredibly useful to me even without having an FBX exporter. That being said, I had to rely on old, unsupported plugins to build the exact base standard blocky skeleton, which were Blender exclusive. I can also see it being useful for people who create their own character meshes.

Since we don’t have FBX export, if you are creating animations and need them to accurately grab things, I would recommend using in-engine Inverse Kinematics to adjust the hand positions if you only have access to a blocky skeleton and need the animation to fit the skeleton of a character you did not create.

That being said, I can somewhat see why Roblox would have trouble exporting FBX. There’s a lot of strange stuff when it comes to rigged character bundles, like it being in separate parts, or the weird way Roblox handles joints. I could also see it being misused to steal layered clothing and avatar bundles with a lot of ease since it’d be just as simple as export and reimport, which unfortunately already happened with rigid accessories if I recall correctly. I hope a good middle ground can be found so we can get this feature at some point.

OMG this is so needed! I have made lots of animations on Roblox and I have even made some pretty cool ones on Roblox, just to find out I can’t export them… I also have lost some models with pretty cool armatures/textures which I can only find stored on Roblox, this will make everything so much better!
