Focus Dance and Gymnastics strives to be a family-friendly community. We expect members to follow the Roblox Community Rules. You can find a complete list here: https://en.help.roblox.com/hc/en-us/articles/203313410-Roblox-Community-Rules
In addition to the Roblox rules, please also note the following:
- No bypass swearing (using any means to convey a swear word despite Roblox’s filter) including single letter bypasses
- Do not pretend to be a teacher/moderator
- Do not advertise. Publically asking members to join/play a group/game is advertising
- Do not fight with other members (and do not respond to fights)
- Do not beg for ranks/admin/levels etc. These are earned, not given
- Do not troll or annoy other players. Do not abuse the game systems (music/class configurations) to annoy others.
- No Shipping! (The act of joking about, hinting at or outright encouraging a “relationship” between two players)
- No glitching/hacking/exploiting or otherwise trying to disrupt the game
- No political debates
- Do not talk about your personal life publicly. It’s not safe and not our business. If you wouldn’t say it to a stranger on the street, don’t say it in-game
- We try to keep our group wall clean. Any drama/spam/advertising gets deleted. Do not be disappointed if your message is deleted, we read all messages, even deleted ones
- Repeated wall spam or rants can result in a kick from the group in order to purge messages
Music Rules
As a Family Friendly Community, we have rules about what music can be played in-game. All music must be clean in both actual lyrics and song message. If you are unsure about a song, ask a parent or guardian to check the lyrics for you.
Tips
Some additional advice, talk to your parent(s)/guardian(s) about what you play on Roblox and any problems you have. They can help you navigate and stay safe on the internet!
If someone is bullying you remember to use the block and report features Roblox provides, and if you are still unsure, talk to a parent or guardian.
Use of Space/Equipment Priority Rules
This section outlines who gets priority over a given space at a given time.
- Scheduled events (Scheduled by a Focus teacher) take the highest priority on all occasions. ALL events; Choreography and group practice included!
- For all student-run choreography sessions, larger groups take priority over smaller groups. If the groups are the same size, the rule is first come, first serve. Elite/Pro rank members do not get a higher priority, priority rules apply to everyone. In addition, students are expected to be able to share a space and solos are expected to use the personal music player, not the radios.
Section 2: How To Dance

Step 1: Press a number (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0)
Step 2: Press a letter (any letter except, WASD and IO)
Step 3: Watch your character dance!
Step 4: Press 1 to turn off animations
Mobile:
Mobile mode uses an on-screen menu.
Step 1: Open the dance menu by clicking the arrow button at the bottom of the screen (next to the dancer icon)
Step 2: Pick a dance genre by pressing one of the round buttons on top of the menu
Step 3: Press a letter. These are the same letters as on your keyboard so you can swap from mobile to computer and use the same routines! You can scroll left and right to view more moves.
Section 3: Your Player Card and Levels
Every member has a Player Card. This card can be viewed by clicking on a character in-game. Click on yourself to view your own card. Note: Only one player can view a card at a time. If you find your card gets stuck (closed or open) respawn to fix it.
On a Player Card you will find some helpful information:
- The name of the player
- Their House Team
- The number of warnings they have received
- The player’s current skill levels
- The player’s merits
Only a teacher/moderator can award levels or warnings, but you are able to change your own dance house if you want to. Note: Players cannot edit each other’s cards.
Levels:
As you play at Focus dance you will earn skill levels. Skill levels can be earned by:
- Participating in class
- Winning a competition
- Winning a dance off
The maximum level you can reach in each skill is 10. Once you reach level 10 in a level you are eligible for a rank up to one of the comp team. See section 5 for more info.
NOTE: Remember to press the Save button (it will show in the top left if you make any changes to your card) before exiting your card or you will lose any changes that were made.
Section 4: Dance House Teams
There are currently seven house teams at Focus. Each one has different traits. Select the house that best describes your interests. This house will become your team and you can compete with them in dance competitions. All of the teams also have special practice rooms that are unique to their interests, you can visit these rooms by heading up the staircase near Studio A.
How to pick a house:
Open your player card and press “Change House”. You will be shown a menu with seven options. Read about the houses then chose the one that suits you best. Remember you can change this again at any time!
Section 5: Focus Ranks
There are several mastery ranks at Focus. Joining one of these ranks means you have excelled at skill. You have to reach level 10 to join one of these teams. The teams are:
- Ballet Company (Level 10 ballet)
- Competitive Dancers (Level 10 jazz, modern, acro OR hiphop)
- Cheer Squad (Level 10 cheerleading)
- Pro Gymnasts (Level 10 gymnastics)
- Pro Aquatics (Level 10 Aquatics)
- Pro Skaters (Level 10 figure skating)
Elite Team
The Elite Team is for members who have reached level 10 in any 5 SKILLS! These members have shown huge dedication and patience to reach this level. There are a few perks to being a member of this rank:
- Consideration for performing as a guest in Productions
- Higher chance of being selected as a Professional Dancer
- Can serve as helpers (with permission from the teacher) in classes teaching genres they have already maxed
This rank receives no other benefits and is expected to behave the same as all other students. Being an Elite dancer does not give you permission to misbehave or treat others with disrespect. Elite students are expected to be role models who lift their fellow players up and help them achieve their goals at Focus!
Professional Dancer
This rank is the highest level a dancer can achieve and is what members of Focus should strive for! Professional Dancers get to perform in short productions (20-30 minutes each) for all of Roblox! These productions will be rehearsed and staged regularly. Pro dancers will work as a team to coordinate these productions and do several showings of each. To be considered for this rank you must show an advanced level of dancing ability and have good moderation history (aka, you aren’t banned).
How to Become a Professional Dancer at Focus
First step - Train like crazy! Pro dancers need to master the following skills:
- Using arms with animations
- Switching genres quickly
- Musicality and timing
- Using tumbling tools with animations
- Replicating real-world dance routines (ballet especially!) in Roblox
- Using “glitch” or “combo” moves (moves that combine animation keyframes from multiple moves)
- Pro dancers should be able to perform a classical ballet variation
- Pro dancers should be able to perform moves from multiple genres very quickly (almost at the same time!) and pair advanced combos
- Pro dancers should be able to dance in sync with a partner or group (Most routines will be group routines not solos!)
- Pro dancers should have maxed as many levels as possible. These are not required but will help when looking at dancers being recommended. (Note: a very good performance is worth more than any levels you have achieved.)
Second step - Audition for the role!
Audition information is posted in the bulletin server (see social links in the group). You must be over 13 and have access to the bulletin to participate. You can also sometimes earn the rank by participating in Focus Finals as your solo will be used as an audition as well.
Volunteer Teacher/Moderator
Teachers and Moderators
Members of this rank are selected by Mimi. The role of teachers is to host regular classes in a variety of genres. They also choreograph routines and host competitions. Teachers have admin commands and moderation tools. They also help keep the group wall clean and accept members to the group.
Other Student Programs
The Gymnastics Program
The program is open to ALL MEMBERS! Members of Focus can also join the Olympic Gymnastics Competition group, by KardashianKlan to attend gymnastics competitions. Members can compete under the Focus team in four different levels! To learn more, check out OGC: Official Gymnastics Competition - Roblox
The Cheerleading Program
Focus sometimes sends cheer teams to compete in Roblox-wide competitions. These teams are by audition only.
The Competitive Dance Program
Focus sometimes sends dance teams to compete in Roblox-wide competitions. These teams are by audition only.
Section 6: Classes, Competitions, Showcases, Minigames, Exams, Dance Battles and Auditions
There are seven kinds of regular events at Focus Dance. Below are explanations of what they are:
Classes:
Classes are hosted by Focus teachers (and sometimes moderators), at the Focus studio game. At classes, you participate in learning activities that teach you how to dance (or skate/swim/act/cheer/tumble etc.)
Before class, there will be time to get dressed in the correct outfit. The doors are unlocked for class so you can join late if you need to.
The first activity is a warm-up, followed by some exercises.
Class activities include but are not limited to: Combos, Short Choreo, Across the Floor, and Stations.
It is up to the teachers to decide how the class will be run, some will follow this standard format while others will offer a creative twist.
At the end of class, levels are awarded to every dancer who participated in the majority of the class. If you joined in the last 5 minutes, were afk for most of the class, or did not complete activities you will not receive a level. You will get a level no matter how well you did in class as it is about learning not being perfect
After levels have been awarded, the host may play a minigame with the class if they wish.
Casual Competitions:
Competitions happen most often on the weekends. They can last up to two hours and are lots of fun to participate in. To participate in a competition, you must arrive before the competition starts. After it starts, the stage is locked to prevent new entries (this is so the comp can’t go on forever). You can compete in whatever style you like and you can also compete as a duo/trio/group in some competitions. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will all receive levels up in the genre they competed in.
Competitions have separate awards for maxed and unmaxed members. Maxed members are ones who have reached level 10 in all genres (teachers, most pro dancers, some elites). Unmaxed dancers are those who have not yet done so (new students, comp+, some elites). You will compete in your level.
Rules:
- Music and costume must follow Roblox rules
- Don’t beg for a turn (in most competitions, players are numbered, and have to wait their turn)
- Be a good sport and cheer others on!
- If you respawn/rejoin or otherwise leave the stage during competition you might not be able to return! Be careful!
Most competitions will use the competition organizer system. This system has a button you can press to enter the competition but once it starts cannot take more players! Being on time is essential!
Improv Competitions
These fun and fast competitions can be enjoyed by everyone. Each dancer gets 30 seconds (or more depending on the number of attendees) to make up a dance to music on the spot. The top dancer wins three levels! Just like regular comps, unmaxed students are competing separately from maxed students.
Dance Battles
Dance battles will be held in the garden. The stage is split in two, red Vs. blue. The host will decide who will compete (there are different modes like tournament, challenger, group battles). Two teams will dance improv against each other. At the end the viewing students get to vote on the winner. These are really fun, interactive challenges that are just as much fun to watch as to participate in.
Showcases:
Showcases are an extremely casual event where a few dancers get to share their dances with an audience. There are no awards or ranking for showcases, they are just for fun. Dancers are brought to the stage and may dance if they choose to. The stage is left unlocked so players can come and go as they wish.
Some showcases use the same format as competitions, with an ordered group and some are a random draw selection. They are casual and fun to watch.
Please note: Begging the host for a turn or getting mad when the showcase is over is not allowed.
Mini Games:
The commonly played minigames at Focus are Freeze Dance, Dance Off, Simon Says, Four Corners and Fashion Show. The host will explain the rules to the group before starting the game. Minigames are hosted in either studio A or studio B and Fashion Show is usually hosted at the Stage.
Mimi Game Explanations
Freeze Dance: Players stand on a marked dance area and dance to music selected by the host. When the music is paused the dancers must freeze. They cannot dance, walk or speak while the music is off. While the music is on they must not stand still. Last players standing win. No levels are awarded for this minigame.
Dance Off: Players stand on a marked dance area and dance to music selected by the host. The host will slowly vote off dancers by creating a force field effect around them. When only 3-5 dancers remain, the host will determine the winner by selection, or participant vote. Top three dancers earn levels in the genre of their choice (dance styles only, dancers cannot earn aquatic, gymnastic, theater or cheer levels in this activity).
Simon Says: The classic game of Simon Says. Dancers will be asked to perform dance moves only when “Simon says”. The last dancers standing are the winners, no levels are earned this minigame.
Four Corners: The classic game of Four Corners. Dancers pick a corner while the host sits blinded in the center of the room. Any dancers standing in the corner the host selects will be out. Last dancers standing win, no levels are earned in this minigame.
Fashion Show: This minigame takes place at the stage. The host will pick a theme and all players must create an outfit using the items in their Roblox inventory. They will have a time limit. When the time is up the host may have players walk the runway at the stage. Half of all the players will be eliminated, and the game will repeat with new themes until one player remains. No levels are earned in this minigame.
Exams:
Just like real dance, we host exams to gauge your abilities in-game. Just like in real life, a high level of respect and dedication to the art is expected. Exams are run much like classes but only 50% of players in the exam will pass. The bonus is they will get TWO levels instead of just one!
Exams have some very specific rules. You can be eliminated for breaking them.
- You cannot speak in an exam
- In an exam you have to wear dance clothes appropriate for the style. You can find free ones in the changerooms.
- Ballet requires ballet tights, ballet slippers and a leotard. Tutu is optional
- Acro/Gymnastics must be bare foot
- Hiphop must-have sneakers
- Jazz and Modern must not have street shoes or street clothes
- You cannot join late, to an exam
Talking or entering the room without the proper outfit will cause you to be respawned. Once the door is locked, you won’t be able to get back in if you are respawned. Exams are hard (especially the no-talking part) so be prepared before you arrive!
Regular Auditions:
Sometimes teachers host auditions for small group dances and performances. These will be posted on the group shout. Anyone is welcome to participate in an audition, and it’s a great way to gain experience. These are usually similar to exams but are more casual (you are allowed to speak) and fun. Once the audition is complete and dancers have been chosen, those dancers get to participate in a fun group dance performance with the teacher.
Section 7: Merits and Manners
Merits
What are merits?
Merits are points you can earn at Focus for demonstrating kindness, good manners or good work ethic! Merits can be found in your student card (click your character). When a teacher sees you being kind or helpful, they can give you a point. These aren’t guaranteed of course, teachers won’t see every nice thing you do, but if you are nice to everyone all the time you will likely earn some merits!
What are merits for?
Merits are a reward for being kind to others. Consider it our way of saying, thank you for being a good digital citizen!
How can you earn them?
Here are some things you can do to help you earn merits faster:
- Be helpful when someone asks you a question
- Be friendly with others and give compliments
- Show good behaviour in class
- Listen to teachers without being told twice and show respect
- Have good manners
Here are some things that will cause you to not be considered when giving out merits:
- Using caps
- Being rude
- Trolling
- Talking back to teachers
- Not following instructions
These aren’t the only way to earn (or not earn) merits so just strive to be the best you that you can be and help us make the world a better place!
Manners
While there are lots of rules you have to follow at Focus there are also some things you should do simply to be nice, help make focus run smoother and to increase your chances of being recognized for dance opportunities and events. We consider these things dance etiquette.
- At the end of class, curtsy or bow and thank the teacher
- Do not speak when the teacher is speaking
- When someone is talking to someone else, don’t stand between them and interrupt; wait your turn
- Call your teachers Miss, Ms, Mr, Mx, or their preferred title (if you don’t know their preference you can ask, don’t be shy!) just as you would in a real dance class!
- Arrive 10 minutes early for practices
- Arrive 15-20 minutes early for competitions
- Avoid using caps
- If you cannot get someone’s attention by asking three times (without caps) wait until later to get their attention
- Do not beg for anything or ask for things after being told no
- Put other students before yourself whenever possible
- Do not pester or be annoying
- Follow instructions the first time
