Heyo everyone! Just started a showcase type game called Trenchline, and I could use some feedback. I want to build this game from the bottom-up while keeping you guys updated! It’s supposed to be as realistic as possible. Let me know what you guys think, and please don’t hesitate to leave comments/suggestions!
Note: Not all of the assets seen here are made by me, however, the work is completely original.
Thank you so much for the feedback; it means a lot!
Do you mean the overall ambience throughout the game (global lighting settings), or the lighting throughout the trench (local lighting such as the lanterns)?
Great idea, thing is I’m planning on making the game more cinematic by adding realistic exploding shells and machine-gun fire to make the game more immersive. In my opinion, the explosions and fire will be more realistic/enhanced by the darkness of the environment.
What would the battle gameplay be? You could still implement nighttime, but just make sure that there’s some restrictions on attacking during nights, keep the most intensive combat during day time.
Well this will most likely be more of an immersive showcase, as my programming skills aren’t that great lol. I do want to keep the game nighttime though, as it will enhance the realism of the explosions and bullets.
This is super cool looking! Though like the others said, I would recommend upping the brightness. When working with military themed games, I’ve always found that it is best for longevity to pick gameplay over realism. Even though pitch black night looks cool, it can be frustrating to players when they can’t see the enemy.
OMG This looks amazing!! I really like the look and it also gives us a WW1 Vibe!! Really realistic, however if this is a shooter, it will be really hard to see and shoot anything so yep and the lanterns just look sooo realistic like if I am actually on a WW1 Front lol . The lighting is amazing. I really wish if I could play your game!! However, your game may be pretty laggy to slow devices.
Yeah I’m just now realizing how dark it is lol; thanks for the feedback! It really means a lot!
Thanks so much for the feedback friend! Yeah I know how that feels when you get sniped and have no idea where it came from lol. I’m going to update it quick as I can and make it brighter so no worries.
Oh wow thanks for the feedback friend! Yeah I’m really big on lighting lol (imo it’s the most important part of any realistic game). As for lag, I’ll definitely have to run some tests, so thanks for the heads-up!
Great observation! I actually haven’t reached that part of the process yet, however, here’s a bit of a teaser for what everything is going to look like eventually.
Notice the subtle difference that the texture creates? It adds a bit of a worn look to everything. Later on in the dev process, I’ll slap this texture on just about everything to make the trench and everything in it look more worn.
Funny you should ask that lol. I was contemplating on whether or not I should add the gun to the game for that very reason, but seeing as my Blender skills aren’t the greatest and I didn’t have too many free model choices, I decided to add it. It looked half decent and I figured nobody would really think too much about it lol. Apparently you have proved me wrong
