Feedback on Futuristic / Cyberpunk(ish) City

It has almost been a year since the last post for this city (wow) and since then lots has changed. For reference these are the previous posts
Post1
Post2

The new changes are attached below.

New District

Since the last post (post2) I have added a completely new district in order to add some division between the more wealthy and less wealthy parts of the city. Most of this district is mid-rise residential and the inspiration came from Google Street view in various Japanese cities as well as Kabuki from Cyberpunk2077. Please note that all the black billboards you see will eventually have ads on them. I just need to create the ads and implement them into a script.

Fixed Buildings

For the longest time some of the buildings in the previous builds of this city had looked truly terrible and no one had pointed it out. Eventually I got tired of staring at them and completely rebuilt them from the ground up. Bonus points if you know the reference buildings for some of these.

  • Millennium Resource Management Building
This building was in desperate need of an over hall. Was pretty much a giant glass cube before which did not really fit with the overall aesthetic of the rest of the city
    Before

    After

  • PCPD Building
The police station before the revamp was nothing else except for bad so, I’m only going to post the new version.

  • Medimax Center
The “hospital” before getting fixed appeared to look like a regular hospital you would find in some generic American city which yet again needed to be fixed.
    before

    after

  • Crimson Weaponry Tower
The previous iteration of the tower was ugly. For the new version I decided to try and mix two architectural styles into one to see what would happen

Night Lighting

I have been slowly working on night lighting, adding window lights to the buildings and adding street lights to the city. It is not fully done yet as it is a slow and grueling process with the window lights but let me know what you think of it so far.

Thanks for checking out my post! I’d really enjoy some feedback before I really go in and start adding the fine details as well as the missions.

Its quite empty in parts while also being far too clean. It also kinda just looks too.. happy.

do you think you could elaborate on the happy part of your comment? is it the lighting or something else?

When I saw “futuristic” I was expecting like a dark, over populated city, with trash everywhere. Maybe that’s what he means by too happy?

I guess “futuristic” will mean something different to everyone though. The city looks pretty good

I like it! Is it being made for any particular reason? You clearly have some talent.

I think with just a few changes this could look really cool.

If you’ve ever been to a large Japanese (or really any East Asian city), there’s a LOT of lights and a lot of different colors of lights.

Image of Osaka I pulled off of google

From the picture you can see just how dense the landscape is, the amount of colors there are, and the amount of brands/ads you see on walls.

I recommend you:

  1. Try to slightly increase the density of the city (there shouldn’t be wide open streets, try to shove as much into a tiny space as possible)
  2. Increase the amount of lights and also make them be a bunch of different colors
  3. Add some ads (pun not intended), billboards, and signs to make the space feel more exciting

gotcha, I wanted some feedback before I went in and added the finer details like trash and whatnot so if I do need to change something quite larger later on it would not be too much of an issue

A little passion project I picked up again last year after completely starting over again

I see, The reason my streets are wide is I do need need to implement cars into the mix so for gameplay purposes they are quite wide. I came back from a trip to Japan a couple months ago and since photography is a second hobby of mine ill go through my photos and really see what made Japan feel like that, thanks for the feedback!

This futuristic city looks extremely good and detailed! Great job on making it! How long did it take to build? I rate it 9/10! You should add more small decorations to it like benches and trash cans to fill it up!

I like it, the buildings look really good.
I think one thing that could make it really good is what @EffBeeCee said. Add a lot of neon lighting, make it very dense, etc.
Nice job! :+1:

this already looks pretty good. big fan of the police station as well (blade runner reference???). i think it has really good roots, but i do think that there are areas to improve.

like some previous comments, id say make it much denser and less “perfect” if you get what im saying. the atmosphere of typical cyberpunk/futuristic cities are very choked and dense.

id say to look at more media for inspiration because theres no shame in that. here are a few examples of ones i personally like and use:

  1. Neo-Tokyo, AKIRA. one of the pioneers of this aesthetic

  2. New Port City, Ghost in the Shell. another fantastic example

  3. Cyberpunk 2077. for obvious reasons

  4. Blade Runner 2049. self explanatory

of course, these might not fit for what you want to do, but id highly suggest looking into these!

I found why your design look not futuristic rather modern. It is better to add objects floating in the air, I think. Excuse me if this idea isn’t satisfying for you.

Yes! The police station is referenced from blade runner. Thank you for the advice!
