This option hasn’t done anything in years: how would keeping it around, preserve history? Besides, it’s not likely to break any code because accessing it will constantly return true
, as stated.
it breaks older games that were around long before roblox’s developers even thought of such a thing. Games like Pirate Wars, Cross Roads, Zepplin Wars, etc.
FE already broke old games as it’s forced enabled for every game. Again, this is deprecating a property for it that doesn’t do anything anymore.
Wait, it wasn’t already deprecated? How? How?
So instead of “FilteringEnabled” it’s just “Filtering.”
I’d really prefer if it was a toggleable thing and all games before the original release of FE being forced had it off by default to not break them.
Kinda sucks…
Won’t this make every game so easy to serverside exploit?
I think you and everyone else here needs to reread the OP. This is simply hiding a property that hasn’t done anything for multiple years. Nearly nothing is changing as a consequence of this, and complaining about FE always being on here is off-topic.
Awesome, now I don’t have to answer for the 727178th time that FE is always on
Most of them. Only a few gear and those made after the introduction of the client-server model are compatible in today’s standards. There was a single developer who used to do gear updates however it’s become increasingly clear that there’s plans to drop support for gear or deprecate it in the future and I do not believe this developer performs updates anymore.
Gear’s been a touchy subject for older folk or those with a strong nostalgic bias as evidenced by a few discussions and arguments that have occurred on the forum and elsewhere. It effectively has no use except being another accessory option or in some cases also giving a website pose.
It’s a little rare right now but I know a game or two that uses gear ownership to grant you a game-specific version of it to use. Example is TheSteelEagle’s Monster Island which owning Bloxy Cola gives you a Bloxy Cola powerup that grants 50% more EXP on consumption for your current life.
The client-server model has been around long enough and developers have been given years to make the migration. They’ve had their fair chance to update their game, so nothing about this is unfair. This thread is simply announcing the hiding of a property that’s been useless for a good few years, it doesn’t change anything from the standards you’re used to today.
I’ve known of a lot of gears that were broken before this change because of the client-server model, but are there any that break because of this specific change (property being deprecated) and if so why?
Edit: Reason I ask is because of @DataBrain’s post, I don’t see why any would break
Oh, that’s what you meant. Then no, nothing is going to break because no gear relies on the FilteringEnabled property’s value. This is a visual change first and a technical change second in that the property will always be true and attempting otherwise will fall through.
What I mean to say is that, before you could turn FilteringEnabled off for the sole purpose of messing with old scripts/gear. Now you can’t even do that. So old gear is perma-broken.
huh? i still have no idea what your talking about.
Even if you could do this why would you if you A) already knew the behavior and B) had no use for it in a real game. In my opinion gear is also outdated.
Pretty cool update, will probably clear up a lot of confusion among new developers.
Also, before you reply about how this will ruin your game, they’re not removing FE, they’re removing the toggle for FE because once they forced FE the toggle did nothing and caused a bunch of confusion. If your game didn’t break in 2018 when they removed Experimental Mode you’re fine.
im confused because i have absoloutly no clue what it was in the first place.
Your join date says you joined in late 2018. Filtering Enabled had already been mandatory then, so you don’t need to worry about this.
That’s exactly why they removed this, because people were getting confused.
Finallllyyyyy. Continuing to support FE toggle is just asking for new scripters to get more confused at this point.
im not a scripter. im asking what it actauly does or is for.
