[Full Release] Universal Importer

Hi Creators,

We’re excited to announce the full release of the Universal Importer, which brings support for image, audio, and video files to the Import Queue. Since the Beta release, we’ve given the Importer a refreshed design, fixed some bugs, and made a few quality of life improvements.

How to use the Universal Importer

You can access the Universal Importer through any of the same ways you accessed the 3D Import Queue. In addition, the revamped Asset Manager’s import button now routes to the Import Queue.

  • The Import button in the Studio Ribbon
  • File > Import menu option
  • Cmd-M (Mac) / Ctrl-M (Windows)
  • The Import button in the revamped Asset Manager

See our documentation here.

Improvements from Beta

We’ve refreshed the Import Queue to be aligned with Studio’s global design system.

After

Based on your feedback, we also added two contextual menu options to make it easy to find inserted models in the workspace and access the asset id of imported assets:

  • The Right Click > Find in Workspace option focuses the current selection on the inserted asset. This only applies to models because image, audio, and video assets currently are not inserted into the workspace on import.

  • The Right Click > Copy AssetId option copies the uploaded asset id to your clipboard. For models, this copies the asset id of the uploaded model.

What’s next

We plan for the Universal Importer to fully replace the legacy Bulk Importer. The legacy Bulk Importer is still accessible through the legacy Asset Manager, but will be fully phased out when the revamped Asset Manager is released to GA in the coming months.

If you have any feedback or feature requests for the Importer, please share your feedback below.

I actually prefer the Before image, the drop-downs and top bar being a separate color make it more readable in my opinion. In the After image, everything sorta melds together and its hard to see at a glace what is, and isn’t a drop-down.

I do however, like the smaller search and import button from After image.

Agreed, the differentiation is nicer in comparison to the After version. This is a great update, anyhow. Thank you to the team working on this!

Still Roblox lacks many features. Even the simple one. They should learn for other game engines give Dev’s more freedom what they are doing while keeping a safe moderation.

few days ago i was searching for where this was, had to create a custom tab and add Import button there. It feels like this is a hidden feature, why is Asset Manager in Home tab but not this?
