Say I wanted to do a MrBeast and hold competitions or dish out rewards to players of a specific game, what would be allowed?
I’m guessing robux is a no because of potential scams, but would roblox not allow roblox codes, or dishing out $100 to the top player of the week?
I’m just trying to spark a discussion, these are all off the top of my head ideas.
My assumption would be that private events, like between YouTubers would be distant enough to be allowed, but I’m guessing you couldn’t hold in-game events with rewards outside of the game, but maybe I’m wrong?
Anything you can contribute to this subject would be nice to know.
I ask because of the increase in popularity of gaming events, and how some kids can make millions off of fortnite via gaming events. I feel it’d be a good incentive and promotion for a game if you were to, say, hold a Christmas event and award the player with the most kills a new gaming computer. Obviously, Roblox functions differently and by hosting a game on their platform you’re restricted by their rules which are understandably harsh because of a high percentage of young players.
I think this would be allowed I mean if as long as it’s not robux I don’t think roblox would cares as much. I think for the $100 dollars they would allow because, it’s your own money. As for giving out robux you could get give the person a $100 Roblox Gift card.
Hey I have read before that this idea might not be such a good idea. Not saying it’s not possible I even thought this possible at one time, Roblox has a very strict rewards policy and they do lay out some pretty good guidelines on these matters, I have attached an article I read on gambling from dev forum it’s not exactly what your discussing but maybe it can help. Cheers!
I think gambling is interesting as it depends how you disguise it. Crates go overlooked but if you made a casino the world would flip, when in reality they’re not that much different…
You are not allowed to giveaway Robux, real money or anything other than in-game currency in your Roblox game. Although a grey area, you can generally giveaway Robux provided that you don’t promote it anywhere on Roblox, such as a giveaway on a Discord server for instance.
I figured as much, and it makes sense, I wouldn’t contest those rules. How safely in a grey area is sending giftcards/ cash to high ranking players via Discord? I’m interested in the logistics of it, whether monetary incentive could significantly increase player retention and concurrent playerbase, similarly to how Fortnite has people playing far too often to try be the best.
This isn’t a gray area, and isn’t allowed. The rules are very clear on this.
As discussed in Roblox Terms of Use, you cannot (and you cannot allow others) sell, trade or give away Robux, digital goods or game codes except through official channels on Roblox platform. For example, you cannot conduct such transactions through chat, Roblox Groups, or third-party apps or websites.
Just because it’s hard to enforce doesn’t mean it’s not against the rules. It definitely is.
Additionally, I have hosted game jam events via Discord with Robux prizes consistently for nearly three years and have never run into a single issue, despite having promoted it on the devforum in the past.
I realise the guidelines state that it’s simply not allowed, but I believe it’s more of an unenforced safety measure so Roblox don’t have a reason to take responsibility if you get scammed, which is why I said it’s a bit of a grey area.
If you don’t want to take any risks though, following the guidelines is probably the best course of action.
