Future Is Bright: Phase 3 - Studio Beta

Is there any estimated release date for Phase 3? I have a Roblox event coming up towards the end of July and am wondering whether revamping the lights to suit Future if it gets released before then would be a good call.

I played with my studio graphics, but no use, i enabled future, turn on shadow in a pointlight effect, and the light goes out… i also see little to no changes in the shadows or anything, looks the same as shadowmap, the only new thing i see is the improved lighting with the lights that have shadow turned off. How do i fix this?

Decided to go on one of my showcase projects and enabled FiB phase 3 as well as a few other lighting tweaks.

The new lighting looks sick! I have a few issues though, like how is it going to work for mobile users or lower-end devices, because the lower the game quality, the lighting gets messed up, so is there no chance for those users to experience the proper game lighting?

But you can see the surface gui in dark areas. which is not what i need.

That is indeed, what lower graphics is for. You’re not supposed to get the fancy stuff on lower graphics, yeah it looks worse, but thats what its for. If you made it visible for lower graphics… it wouldn’t be lower graphics because it wouldn’t run as well. I’ve heard so many people say what you said, it doesn’t make sense. All games have graphic settings, and if its not running well on thy computer, you turn the graphics down which in turn, will make it look like crap. But you’ll still be able to play the game, and. that. is. ok.

Hey I love the update on the lightings on Roblox but is it just me or is the 1st Floor ceiling a bit dark?

I really like this new Future Technology Lighting it makes games more cool/appealing and realistic,i know this is still beta and surface is still not supported.
But when i use spotlight with the Future technology and i enable the Shadow box the light suddenly dissapear, but when i turn the part transparency to .748 or more it will appear again with shadows.
This doesn’t happen to me with the Point Light.

is there a problem/error with the spot light while using the future technology? or its actually supposed to do that… :face_with_monocle:dsa

I hope the newer versions fixes this problem and add many more things :smiley:

the shadow softness option in point lights is gone and Lighting.ShadowSoftness affects only sun shadows

If we set Technology to Future and when the time comes for it to release to the public, will it apply automatically without us having to re-publish our place?

Does this mean we can have shiny things that aren’t Smooth Plastic? (Reflectance property)

Through some experimentation with the future technology, I have noticed that terrain grass ‘detail’ doesn’t react to light at all meaning there’s a disconnect between the color of the ground and grass in dark settings.

I found some mesh grass to show a demonstration of what it should look like ;

This isn’t really a huge issue, but thought it’d be best to mention.

SurfaceLights don’t have shadows at all, afaik…

I’m so glad this has been made into a thing! Now lights will have very nice dynamic lighting! Great update from Roblox, can’t see anything wrong with it.
