Game Access only to Group Members

I wish to set one of my games to be only accessible to group members, but without the usual kick-script if possible. That script feels pretty tacky to me, and I don’t feel like it gives off enough of a “no access” vibe to the game if its meant to be private / closed-community.

In the “permissions” tab of Roblox Studio, or even within the website, I swear I had seen an option to turn the game only to group members. Past closed-community games that I have been apart of, or even looked to be apart of used to have (and still do have) this feature. Instead of the nowadays more common “kicked from the game if not apart of the group” script, it would be replaced by the actual Roblox game-page stating that you aren’t able to play without being apart of the group.

I’ve seen a topic similar to this one, linked below:

Though, this didn’t really answer my question, apart from a vague answer of “it may have been removed and some people kept it on certain older games.”

I’ll link any games I can find with this feature below for any extensive needed research, displaying the fact that games have had this feature to this day where only group members may play, without having to be “developer” or higher:

(can only find this one for now, as I haven’t slept and am not willing to dig deeper right now)

Go to the experience you want to configure on the Creator Dashboard. Scroll down from the side panel until you see “Access Settings” under the Audience category. From there, you can set the game’s access type to Group Members or to the Public.

If it is made under a group then you can set the roles that you want to have access to the game in the collaborate tab.

This did help, however, I can not access the legacy roles from that tab. Does this mean that Roblox has limited this feature to being locked behind their new “Roles” feature that are separate from the already existing group roles?

If possible, I’d like to set it so an already existing role in my group does the same thing, without having to set someone to this role every time I accept them into the group, and then giving them a custom role (that only developers can access).

Yes, Creator Hub roles will remain configurable only on the Creator Hub, and the same goes for roles created on the website.

So you want people to be given this specific role that allows them to play a specific game?

Yes, relating back to my original post where I did not want a script to interfere with this, I’d simply like to accept someone into the group and they immediately get access without any extra additional steps.

I understand a script would get the job done flawlessly, but most games that use this (including my past one) had felt slightly tacky and weird, as normal people could still join and even vote on the game without actually playing it.

My earlier solution should still work for you though, are you having trouble finding this setting?

I turned it on, yet none of my group members were able to access the game. I even tried testing this on an alternate account, yet it said that the experience was private. Setting them to the new role in the Create section did end up working as was previously suggested, though it’d be a pain to have to set every person I accept.

If you know why this issue is being caused, I’d be exuberated to hear your answer.

I’ve figured it out, for anyone whos gonna come across this thread in the future, hoping to achieve the same thing, after dedicating an hour to clicking around the Roblox website and Roblox Studio, I’ll share a step-by-step.

Previously, I was made aware that, once the game is under a group, you may set the access (found in https://create.roblox.com, under your groups game, under Audience > Access Settings) to “Group Members”

Once doing this, the group members will not have all gained access, but you will now have gained the permission to set which roles have access to the game within Roblox Studio. By going into your game and clicking on the button in the image below, you may set which roles can play the game. (really simple, honestly, I might just be dumb)

Uhh…

I think I know why the earlier suggestion didn’t work for you: it’s because you’ve set your experience to private in the first place lol…

That’s a separate game that I actually have closed down. Here’s the one I’m currently working on, (P.S. it still says “this experience is private” even if it is group only access. You can see this below)

Are you sure the game is set to “Public” in the first place? That message should not appear if you’ve set the game to public, but set access to group members only.

Oh, I see, you can set the game to being “Public” and also “Group Members” at the same time. This has the same effect as being “Public” and “Group Members,” though the message on the games page will be displayed differently.

Thanks for your help.

(P.S) Group Members will have access to play the game even if the game is private, as long as you set it this way in Roblox Studio. The two systems are different access settings for anyone who finds this thread later.

You can do two things:
A: Private, and go into Studio and give the role access.
B: Public, and make it group members access on the website.

They all replicate the exact same effect, but differently.
