The past few months have been insane to say the least with the amount of hate being thrown at Roblox for bad moderation and promoting dating to children. Today I was going through the latest Voice Chat games to see what was trending, and I stumbled across something that really disgusted me.
There are now Voice Chat games where you can go on a stage etcetera which is fine, just like discord. However it’s the names of these stages generated by the playerbase, and the categories provided by the developers that are really shocking and disturbing.
I joined one of these ‘Stage Voice Chat’ games earlier this morning and was instantly met with: ‘Love: find your true love’ and ‘lovemaking’, keep in mind half of these rooms are created and ran by users under 18. One of these rooms was even being ran by a 12 year old female. This attracts unwanted attention by people who use Roblox as a pathway to lure children and is NOT okay.
Keep in mind the games CREATORS and DEVELOPERS are actively promoting these categories and stage types to minors. Heres a screenshot where they have specifically created a category for ‘love’:
This is truly disgusting and should have never been allowed to be uploaded in the first place, let alone be used by thousands of children across the world each day. The screenshots showcased in this forum post came from this game. Roblox really needs to start taking action on this before a news article has to cover how another child has been lured from Roblox games as this is really not safe at all.
I’ve been in contact with a few of these experiences creators, they seem to be generally trying to fix moderation issues with their game and protect their community. However the ones that are doing the bare minimum and refused to make any changes to better their game and make it safe for the children playing, have been reported to DSA.
I mean thats good you are doing the right thing. And considering minors can be exposed to bad material, especially under teens.
But I won’t be surprised if this won’t be taken down since now their vision is to allow dating. Which can technically not violate rules as “Allowing Dating Spaces can be fine” or “Online interactions are not moderated”. Even though Roblox can enforce the rules of “if you don’t fix it then it’ll be taken down” but it happens so rarely and often not good enough action.
Don’t be surprised if it doesn’t get taken down [or taken down like weeks/months after] due to the procedure they usually follow.
LONG EXPLANTION
Look at Teddy, the guy who was invited to the Hatch Event and who makes bad material games. Roblox didn’t banned him for a whole week because They follow a procedure of “If you do not comply and fix these issues, your account will be terminated”. [basically contact developer(s) to fix the issue, if not then termination]
Hey thanks for the reply, while usual moderation itself can be hard to get these types of games taken down/dealt with. I find using DSA or having Developer Relations escalate moderation tickets, usually gets the best response from Roblox.
