I think it could be cool if top developers could work with admins to add a way to earn a hat in their games. Maybe even just fun, well made games in general could do it. I think it would definitely have to be hand picked, but it could encourage people to try more games and play games for longer if you could earn hats at the places you’re going to. Taking it one step further, maybe an entire outfit could be won, for example, shirt, pants, and a hat. The developer probably shouldn’t be able to choose the hat awarded as they could just make a new Dominus and get a bunch of free traffic from the promise of a coveted hat, but having just a simple hat that could be earned to represent a game that person likes playing could be cool. They could also work with the admins to decide a suitable way to earn the hat, such as completing X amount of levels or baking X amount of pizzas. It could solve some of the customization issues that could arise when tickets are phased out. I think the majority of the player base would enjoy this way of winning hats.
Well this technically exists for top games, being the ones that constantly get sponsored. Other than non sponsored games, this shouldn’t be a thing; it just promotes elitism and will be unfair to the smaller developers who want to do the same thing, but can’t because their game isn’t as popular as the other ones with the hat rewarding.
How is sponsoring a select few games any different than what you just described?
If you upload something via that ugc they’re adding, and enable it to be awarded from one of your places that would be pretty cool
Also I’m talking game specific hats to show they like that specific game. Getting some 3rd party IP rewarded from a game isn’t exactly what I have in mind for this.
I don’t like the idea of giving a game a hat to give out. What happens when another game tries to compete? The first game will retain players even if it isn’t as good just because it’s giving out hats.
Like official hats that players can wear into other games?
There could be a few different hat models, baseball cap, top hat, etc. etc. and devs could download a texture template then make it to match their game, then upload it and if it’s approved, when the dev awards the hat to players, players could wear it into other games. It would be like user supported advertising. All games would be elligible to have at least one ‘game-hat’, so it would be up to the devs if they participate or not. I Support something like this if it’s what you mean, I think. Maybe someone will have a good argument as to why this would be a bad idea, but right now I kinda like it.
That’s actually even more streamlined than I would have suggested, but I like that more.
I don’t think that Roblox should support specific games any more than featuring them. It’s favoritism that kills competition.
Has anyone considered that the new feature ROBLOX is adding will potentially enable this?
I agree. If any sort of item is to be rewarded for playing a game, it’d have to be for all games and not just a select few – this excludes things like hats, but if you really wanted, shirts/pants created by the place owner could be distributed for free after playing a standard set amount of time (e.g. 2 hours) in a game. That feels like a weird solution to the customization issue though, and I think a much better way of tackling that problem is allowing assets to be uploaded for free in the player-created UGC.
Sponsoring lasts a short period of time. What OP is suggesting happens indefinitely.
Do you mean that in a bad kind of way? I think it’s great if you could award your own hat to players!
Trust me, that was not meant in a bad way
We have all kinds of ideas for hat creation at RPP were already looking at putting into place.
