Heat distortion effect

Wouldn’t it be cool if we had some kind of heat distortion effects/particles? For example look at the visible heat of this jet’s outlet:

ROBLOX’s terrain water already has this kind of effect happening under the water where everything gets distorted inside the water area:


This had me wondering: what would happen if you removed the water and just kept the effect but tweak it to look like heat distortion? I could see a lot of use with this if it actually were to happen.

Thoughts?

how about the ability to let us create our own shaders, similar to particles (since they said they’ll never let us write shader code)

Given the current system, its more feasible for them to just add a ton of shader objects.

That would be really cool.

Roblox would need to give us access to refraction and normal maps for custom materials to make this happen. Normal mapping is currently on the Trello to-do list so we may have this in the future.

Should be added that this won’t be for a while, because it has been moved to rejected for now since they didn’t see much chance of it happening in the upcoming year.
