Hey everyone, over the past few months I’ve been working on a project of mine called Hiking, getting inspiration from games I used to love playing like Hiking by Amazeman, I wanted to bring a concept like that into modern Roblox, using new lighting and building techniques to create a vast open-world for players to explore, with stories, missions, characters, items and more.
The project is set for a release in mid-December, and I’m hoping that I can bring something that I know myself and many others have enjoyed in the past, and applying it to new Roblox to make it so that others can enjoy it too! Enough with that said, here are some screenshots of in-game footage:
Can’t wait to hear what you all think of the game thus far! I’m also looking for feedback and interest on what you’d like to see in the game, I’d love to hear what you guys come up with and what you think of the game!
Yep I do, you can see the progress on the project on my twitter account: https://twitter.com/Lolaphobia
I have Hiking as well as other projects and showcases on the account!
So the primary aspect of the game is to explore, however it isn’t blatant exploration, the primary story line is to collect items from each corner of the map (Sunny Corner State Forest) that you found on a washed up map, along the way you will run into other missions, characters, side missions, mini games and secrets to help the community and earn reputation (in-game currency), the idea is to expand the players experience like a proper open world game, giving the main story line but allowing the player to branch out however they’d like.
Reputation will allow you to buy cosmetic features as the game starts with a default character model. With reputation you can also purchase gear and items that make exploration more fun and quick, allowing you to explore the whole map. There is also no survival mechanic as this is not a survival based game. These are the sketched out ideas currently, however more missions and mechanics are yet to come to the game, and will be implemented at or after release!
Is the game going to be multi player? Also, I think it’d be cool to add some sort of building mechanic to it - which would add en entire new aspect to the game.
The game is multiplayer to promote teamwork and to give the map life, as well as allowing gameplay with friends. There is no building feature currently however we’re implementing campsites across the map, and hopefully in time a building feature will come to the game, but the main goal currently is to polish the final product for release and implementing those ideas in updates throughout the year.
This is amazing, one thing that would be cool is if the trees sway in the wind gently or the grass, also another suggestion is that maybe you add Cabins and wild animals that roam, the cabins could be used to stop and get food e.g. Overall though I really like this and I shall be playing it when it releases.
From the screenshots you’ve provided, the game looks fantastic so far! I think the theme of exploration fits very well with the vast forest environment and I’m looking forward to discovering some of the secrets scattered throughout.
Logo Feedback
In relation to feedback, I’ve noticed that the game’s logo has some noticeable grainy, white edges. These are often the result of cropping an image and can affect the professionalism of an otherwise clean logo. Luckily they be removed with relative ease.
There are a few different method of removing these white edges, such as erasing each unwanted pixel individually using your graphics editor’s Erase brush. A cleaner method would likely be to use a Mask to essentially turn the white edges invisible.
You can find a Photoshop tutorial detailing the various methods of removing these edges here.
Conclusion
I think the game itself has a lot of potential and I’m looking forward to seeing how it turns out. The logo is well-designed too but as I’ve described above, I think removing the white edges would make it look even better.
From the screenshots, the game looks pretty fun and there’s a huge variety of land to explore also by looking at your twitter tweets, it looks like an amazing game in the making, great job! One of the things that sticks out to me is the logo. I can see white outlines which most likely happened when you were making the image transparent, make sure to fix that to make it more high quality and overall look better. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing progress on this game!
