How can I improve this build?

Been working on a pretty solid game and would like some feedback for the menu map.

It’s a 1990s themed luxury-ish apartment.

wowie.

build is very clean.
although…

lamp material icks me out

would suggest fixing up the transparency of the glass doors a bit
image

and also try using large-angle surface/spotlights instead of pointlights since that’s how it would realistically emit light anyways (found it looks better if refined properly). just play around with it. especially for these ceiling lights:

and finally if u wanna you can use custom pbr materials for more realism. but the current classic style looks just fine as well.

solid environment :wink::+1:

With surface lights it looks realistic but at the same time not so realistic. I’ll experiment with both!

Can’t. Roblox won’t remove it. The glass has a transparency of 0.99, reflectance is at 0.

Better?

I don’t wanna be mean but this build give me depression… try some other materials for walls since concrete look a little odd

That explains a lot…

It does? That’s great to hear then! The build is suppose to inflict depression! Because you, the player, had to take many innocent lives to get this small apartment!

turn up brightness. and yeah just experiment :+1:

heres a quick comparison btw (very rough)

with surfacelights:

with spotlights:

idk that’s weird. glass should be borderline invisible if transparency is at 0.99

a lot : )

I did and this is the result:

Also ended up adding some god rays. (Courtesy of a random free model (The ONLY free model or some public resource in my entire game))

I also used 2022 materials.

Forgot to mention but for the glass thing it just doesn’t work. Seems like a roblox issue or something with my lighting technology (future) and the atmosphere…

Ended up removing the atmosphere!

Gives wayyy better results!!

i think it looks fine with the atmosphere, but you can get the best of both worlds if you’re looking for that strong, defined, bold look to it.

just increase the contrast using colorcorrection.

Yeah, that helped a lot! Thanks for the suggestion. One more thing, how can I improve the outside environment? I just have 3 buildings but it looks a bit weird.

(Same image from the top post.)

Very nice build, and here’s a tip!

Getting realistic looking lighting in roblox isn’t as difficult as it may seem.

Here’s some screenshots of a FNAF game I was working on a few months ago:

Now, how did I pull this lighting off? The answer is simple. Lights. A lot of lights.

The flashlight itself has 3 different lights in it.
image
You have 2 lights pointing OUT from the flashlight, one for close-range, enviroment brightening, and the other for long range

And then you have one massive, dim light pointing TOWARDS the flashlight, to brighten the rest of the environment, this light is positioned with an attachment which you can raycast to position.

image

but, that’s just overkill for a scene like yours, so you’d want to go with something like what I did with the office lighting.

For the office, I had one spot light that’s bright and lights up a small area of the room:

image

And then there’s a second surface light which encases the whole room, is dim and has a very small angle.

image

Then there’s a third but optional point light around the actual light source, but you can easily skip on this if you feel it isn’t needed.

The second light however is what makes the lighting look good. This is how the games looks without the second light.

It allows you to still have a dark atmosphere, but realistic lighting.

Then, after the lighting is done, you just fancy up the lights, add some effects and the lighting should look good. Hope this helps!

I was going to learn how to build today, you are now my inspiration!

I like it so much, the lighting, the build itself, wonderous. Good work!

Thanks! I’ll upload another build soon when i am done. It will be pretty big with many important buildings so this surely will take me this whole month and the month of january.

Thanks for the advice! I already do have a small light near the emitter to give it a better shine but I will also use and improve on your advice.
