How do i make music

So, almost every game needs a good music, and i was thinking, how do i make videogame music?

No, i dont want you to reply “take a instrument or sing”, i want to know if there is a program to make music on pc, i dont have money to buy instruments and i dont like to sing, so anyone have any ideas?

A lot of indie game developers use LMMS. You can make retro arcade style music or relaxing Animal Crossing style music. It’s free too!

I just decided to use Chaoz Fantasy’s arp to adjust one my instruments, hahaha.

Higher-end sounds probably requires a 3rd-party VST along with a powerful DAW(Digital Audio Workstation). Ableton, FL Studio, Logic Pro X, Cubase, Pro Tools, etc. are examples of DAWs. Rest of the work comes to MIDI edits.

I am looking for begginer tools, but thank you for the recommendations.

If you want beginner stuff where you can just drag and drop stuff, Garageband is pretty cool (I don’t know if there’s a Windows version, but it’s great on iPhones/iPads and of course Macs)

I am by no means a composer, but as for free programs, soundtrap.com and beepbox.co are pretty good (Soundtrap for normal music, beepbox for 8-bit!)

First off, they don’t need “a good music.” They simply need music and sounds. Second, there’s never a certain way of doing something. Especially when it comes to sound design. I have answered this question numerous times. I also have 2 posts written about music production in #resources:community-tutorials.

I’ll be honest, you really should learn an instrument before jumping into production. I started to produce when I was learning the violin in 5th grade. That’s also the same year I started teaching myself the guitar. I hated the violin with a passion, so I dropped it in 6th grade. Now, 5 years later, I play the guitar, ukulele, drums, piano, and have also taught myself proper vocal techniques for singing. The reason learning an instrument is so useful in production is because it teaches you music theory. Without theory, you’re basically screwed lol.

After 4-5 years of producing, I’m only now getting results I am proud of. That’s how much time you’re looking at. Maybe more since I produce hours a day for fun.

Look at the posts I mentioned in my devforum activity. I go over effects, VSTs, DAWs, etc etc.

I actually highly recommend you avoid LMMS. It’s probably the worst software I’ve ever come across.

This is true. However, you can’t use GarageBand’s noises in your music. You will be uploading it to a platform and will be earning money from it. As long as you use Apple’s loops, you can’t monetize your work.

I would agree with all of the above. You need to learn at least one instrument (i recommend the keyboard) so you can learn basic songwriting skills and music theory. Once you’ve grasped piano, learning other instruments and advanced music theory is almost no big deal, but the choice of instrument in ultimately yours.

If you really don’t want to, you can mix, match, and edit free sounds from the internet. If you really don’t want to go big and professional and just want a semi-original background tune, I suppose this is the way to go.

Whatever the case, music will take time and a lot of patience. I’ve been playing the piano for 8 years and I still run into problems. I have just begun to dabble in recording music. Once you can master an instrument though, I promise you it feels like flying.

In terms of recording, I use this great little program called Audacity. It takes a little bit of getting used to, but the tools are powerful, its good for beginners and, of course, it’s free (you should know that Audacity is also really good at picking up voices really well).

just because something is hard doesnt mean you should just quit and go the easy path. That is something you learn later in life. Going the easy path is going to make you “just like the others”. Nothing will be unique, why would i pick option A who has music from the toolbox, a great idea, but most of the content are free models from the toolbox or unoriginal. over option B who has custom music, a great idea of a game,and amazing original content i get this is little offtopic from the main post but i cant stress it enough that you can just quit

I dont have money to spend in instruments or composers, the toolbox is just a easier way to get music without wasting a lot of money.

And you just justified your decision by using what i said you should not do, almost like you didnt even read or try to analyze what i said. also i do not like your use of the choice word “wasting”. None of these things like instruments or composers are not a waste whatsoever. instruments are an extremely awarding experience to learn and play and composers work day and night to be able to make music that is listenable and beautiful. I know all of these things from experience as i have been producing music for 5 years and playing instruments like the trumpet, piano, and guitar for over 6 years. You are clearly starting out so I’m going to assume you are going to be stubborn and try to back up your decision with another statement that completely overshadows the entire point im trying to convey. Being able to make good music is probably the hardest thing you can learn on this platform. Considering I know how to script, build, model, etc etc.

Eh, i dont think i will ever make a big game or anything amazing, if any day i really need to know how to make music and sounds, i will try to learn. Your point is good, making music will be really good for my life, but i think i will learn it later.

Also you dont need to reply this, for sure you have a lot of things to do and i already have put a solution.
