How should I price my animations?

Hello, my name is Momo6097!
I’m a developer here on the platform, and I specialize mostly in building and animating. I have gotten to the point where i’m experienced enough to use blender for my animations, but had concerns based on my commissions.
My Pricing Chart
All animation prices vary by quality, and advanced movement.

-Combat Animations: 5-7K Robux for two animations
-Emotes: 2-3.5K Robux for one animation
-Dances: These really depend so my pricing can be anywhere from 2.5K to 7K robux.
-Movement Animations: This includes walking, running, etc 6.5K-8.5K robux for 2 animations
-Weapon Animations: I really price these similar to combat animations. But again it varies a lot, if your looking for a simple sword animation, or some type of jump-twist animation then it can be anywhere from around 3-8.5K robux.

If the numbers are up towards 9K robux I will usually give the person another less advanced animation for that price. I’d like to hear what you guys have to say, and what you base your commissions off of. Thanks!

It really depends on the quality of your animations. I don’t know what you mean by combat animations that would make the prices be 5-7k. Though I definitely wouldn’t spend 3k for a “simple sword” animation.

As I said, it depends. A simple sword animation still is worth an hour of my work, every animation takes time and LOTS of trial and error. I’d be fine doing an animation such as that for 1.5K robux. A combat animation is things like fighting (Punching, kicking, etc) which are extremely tricky if you plan on putting it in with an existing animation.

Could you edit the original post to showcase some of your animations so users could better advise you on your prices?

As I said, I don’t know the quality of your animations. If I was personally buying from you, I’d most likely want to see your previous work in the category that I’m buying.

I put together a showcase a few months back, but it’s outdated. I’d be glad to make a new one at some point with my current ones.

ehh tbh idk anyone who would buy animations at that price. i get animations for way cheaper and they look pretty good :man_shrugging:

Plenty of people have offered much more, animations are incredibly important and shouldn’t be underpriced. As I said for high prices you can get 2-3 high quality animations

That’s what i would like to say aswell, but No, Animations are additional contents to games, there are many games that do lives and are popular without animator or “proper animations”,

Your prices are generally excessive for me, mainly because animations are more likely bought as packs (and your prices are a “unit”, unless you are part of the high tier in Quality, Though i do not know what your animations looks like,

If you really want people to acknowledge that animations are expensive, you need proof to change their mind, literally give them a reason to get you and no one else, Otherwise they do not feel the necessity of it and will just take on Mocap instead (lol)

I usually sell a package for much cheaper. For example I sold a pack of 5 emotes for 10K robux.

I sometimes work for days on a script, being only payed 800-1.5k.

If I wanted animations I would hire a full time or part time animator, instead of individual commissions.

That’s just my point of view

I think you may be underpricing yourself quite seriously in that case, rather than that being reflective of the original poster of this thread’s prices being too high.

Possibly, let’s not go off topic in this thread however.

Good thing to think about is how many do people usual purchase, alongside how good do you think you are?

Usually with animations, people want to buy a lot of them so they flow together and there’s usually a lot of animations that need to be made. You don’t want just 1 swinging animation, you probably want 3-4 for variants. So 3 weapon animations at say, 5k robux each is 15k. I could get a weeks worth of work from a builder for something that price. And that’s only 3 animations out of the possible 10-20 they wanted.

I use blender for my work, and it usually takes ~1-2 hours for each item, but people usually want 10-15 weapons for their game on average, so I made a low enough price to where people will purchase the work for 10 weapons, but high enough to where I feel like I’m making a profit for my time spent, and settled with 1.5k each.

I sold 10 animations for 10K as well, I’m very good with deals. I should’ve gave more details in the OP but yeah, I usually give deals that are considered “cheap”

Hey can you provide examples of what animations you make

Let me just point out that 3k robux is only $10 USD. If momo is using r15(assuming the developer isn’t using a custom rig), that’s a lot of moving parts if you’re going for a realistic animation, even if it’s a simple as a simple sword slash. Though a lot of devs can make their own animations for free, for a lot of projects, animations are critical to bringing a game to life, and it would be worth getting them done by a specialist.

Again, I can’t just assume the animation is worth it. I haven’t seen their work, therefore you can’t really price their animations. Either way, I’m going to wait for their showcase before I can give my honest opinion.

From someone who has been in the animating business for 2+ years, that is a bit high. However, it still always comes down to quality of work, if the quality is there then by all means charge it high. But if it’s not up to that high of standard yet, bring it down to around 1k.

I could assist you further if you provide a gif or video of one of your animations

The prices you charge depend on the quality of your animations and who you’re making the animations.

Big developers with popular games are willing to pay a lot more than developers that are just starting out and have no money.

If you want to make a reasonable amount off of making animations as compared to general “real world” work then you need to look at devex prices:

  • 1K R$ = $3.50
  • 2K R$ = $7.00
  • 3K R$ - $10.50
  • 5K R$ = $17.50
  • 7K R$ = $24.50

Ideally you would be charging at least 2.15K R$ per hour – because that’s minimum wage – but ideally more than that because that’s very low (too low for any work in my opinion), especially if you aren’t working 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. Keep your hourly pay in mind, not just the unit pay. You might not be living off of this work but you still don’t want to work for cheap!

If developers are willing to pay you more then you might as well charge more, too! Some of the developers responding in this thread would never pay that much – but you don’t have to work for them. If anyone will pay you more then you might as well take it! And if your animations are high quality, then it may be worth the cost, too!
