Similar as to when you press F1 in the client and opens the Roblox wiki but rather open up any link on Roblox. A convenience when you want to show a group, player, another game, etc.
I like this idea, but I think it would need a “Uncheck this box to receive these links.” Otherwise it could REALLY be abused.
I’m sure I’m not the first to say that I do not like receiving spam mail from others that ask me to join their group. Imagine how abused that would be if people can send others hyperlinks in-game instead of just on the website.
I agree with the uncheck box.
If you are being spammed then leave the game? Clearly the developer doesn’t want you actually playing the game anyway.
It feels like from an immersion point of view, this would be stupidly immersion breaking. I don’t see a positive use for it, that outweighs the negatives.
A game shouldn’t be giving you browser popups. Developers shouldn’t be able to do that. It feels like you want this feature to be used as a bypass to a current issue. Why link to a group? Why not have an api that allows users to join a group when in a game?
It feels like if that was going to be added, a group popup in-game would be the way to do it.
Oh yay! I had this idea a year ago, posted it on S&I and then I kind of let it die after a few weeks…
This is how I thought it could work:
Possibly a new GUI object, like an ImageButton.
It would have a link property, only accepting Roblox Links.
If players clicked it then they would be prompted to open the link with an accept/cancel like the PromptPurchase dialog.
It would need a limit of something like 1 prompt in 5 minutes, per player.
There are many instances where this could work:
Links to detailed tutorials on the forums,
Links to join a group, for instance at a Group Fort.
Links to someone’s profile, for instance the person who created an item of clothing for the game.
It could even be used in places like Trade Hangout, currently you can’t buy Limited/LimitedU items in-game, with this you could prompt users with the link to the item. (I find that I’m constantly switching between TH and the catalog, searching for the items people are offering.)
Obviously wouldn’t work in the chat, but as an item that only the game owner can use, it has loads of potential!
