I am having a problem with ROBLOX studio FPS being capped to 72 FPS. My laptop / monitors support 144 FPS and are set to it

Hi there, first topic I post myself and before I get into it I’d like to clarify it’s my first topic post and apologize if I do something improper.

For a while now, ROBLOX studio, and ROBLOX studio only, has been seemingly capped at 72 FPS. ROBLOX web player / player seem to run properly at my desired framerate, 144 FPS. This issue RANDOMLY started happening and at first I thought it was a studio bug that would be patched in a week, but alas it has not been fixed so it has to be something on my end…

Solutions I have tried so far are changing options in NVIDIA Control Panel, waiting for a ROBLOX update to fix it, and just trying to wait it out.

hardware specs (it’s a laptop)
GPU1: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop GPU

GPU0: Intel(R) UHD Graphics

Core / CPU:12th gen Intel(R) Core I5-12450H

can anybody help me out or give me ideas to try and fix this issue? Thank you! <3

EDIT 1: I should clarify, my laptop is designed to run at 144 FPS too.

The hertz on your monitor do not affect your fps at all, your fps is determined from your gpu thats first. Also you can check if your fps is capped by pressing esc and going to settings. There should be a option to put your fps cap to 240. If that doesn’t work then try updating your drivers if needed.

Also if your on pc check if your hdmi or dreamport cord is attached directly to your gpu not to the motherboard since if it is attached to your motherboard it will use your gpu0 which you dont want. If your on laptop it probably changed automatically and you have to change it back which idk what to do. If it is the case search up how to change from integrated default graphics to your current one.

Yeah dont worry I know that, I should have specified my laptop DOES support 144 FPS and it is currently set to be using 144 FPS on both my main laptop display, and my monitor display. Everything else runs fine for 144 FPS except for ROBLOX studio which seems to force itself to 72 FPS, which is oddly enough exactly half of 144 FPS. Any ideas?

I have just updated my display driver and it did not fix the issue.
Im on a laptop so I’m unsure I can attempt your second solution, but I’ll look into this more.

Cheers! <3

Are you talking about this? By esc i mean the roblox main menu. Roblox released a feature which lets you set your fps cap higher

yeah, I’ve tried messing with that setting.

When I set the ROBLOX settings FPS cap to 60, it seems to cap to 60 FPS perfectly…

But If I set the cap higher like 144 or 240, it still caps at 72 FPS…

and also, I was talking about setting FPS on my windows settings… sorry im new to this stuff ^^"

Your telling me this only happens in roblox studio?

yes… I couldve sworn I said that! My apologies if not.

in roblox player itself, and everywhere else, it is perfectly okay. it has 144 fps just fine.

but in ROBLOX studio (ONLY). It will lag to 72 FPS and is very frustrating (im sure you can understand since im very much used to the smoothness of 144 FPS.)

Thats all the solutions i really had, sorry for wasting your time tbh. But its so weird its the complete opposite for me, in studio i get high 180 - 250 fps but in a real game its lower. Ill try find something that could be capping your fps but good luck to you. Also i cant belive my answer is on google rn

Found someone having the same problem as you their problem was the Nividia control panel settings capping it

I appreciate this, however I tried also setting my NVIDIA panel settings to default and it has not fixed my issue…

hey honestly dont worry about it I just appreciate having someone help at all!

if you have a nvidia gpu then go into nvidia settings > 3d settings> programs > robloxplayer and turn off fps limit

AMAZING!!
You were almost spot on, I realized “wait I don’t see roblox studio here in the programs… what if it’s my global settings??”
My gosh thank you.
so what I did was, I went to my global settings in nvidia control panel, and guess what was the culprit!

This! I left it at 144 fps! all I had to do was set it to off, and I fixed it.

THANK YOU!!! <33

edit 1: here take a look at this! :3
