Immersive Ads: Video Ads Launch and Publisher Eligibility Requirements

corpo’ hell is real and we’re practically dipping our toes into it

At least in Roblox’s case, <13 and some users will not be able to view said ads, so it isn’t as big as what you described here to be

This is mostly because in recent years regulatory agencies and legislatures in the US and EU have been cracking down on advertising targeted at children. The good news is that fewer people being able to see ads in the first place means there’s less incentive for developers to utilize video ads, so we’re probably not going to see as many games using this feature as they did the last time this was a thing.

But ultimately, any game ever having a “watch this commercial to get a prize!” system like the one Roblox is showcasing in this announcement thread is always an unambiguously bad thing. No asterisks, no qualifications, it’s just bad, period. It only ever worsens the overall experience of the player.

Good job, you just made a interesting feature useless with garbage like this.

Are these video ads capped at 30 seconds like videos are for the games page? It looks like it is, but that limitation doesn’t seem to be mentioned in the OP.

Don’t forget they’re pushing ID verification onto a feature that should be for all users but moderated heavily. Along with that, they want 2,000 visits on a place just to create mp4s that play in-game. What a joke of a “feature”.

is it against tos to do a ‘want a break from the ads? pay for [game title] premium!’. If not im about to make some very obnoxious games.

I’m pretty it’s not against TOS to do so, but this situation would be unlikely:

Why would you limit this to only billboards? This is a very untraditional way to go about ads in video games and it would make much more sense to display ads directly in a ScreenGui.

I’m definitely against minimum monthly active user requirements for any features, though part of me is glad they made it so hard to use video ads because I really think they shouldn’t exist at all.

Needing a minimum of 2,000 unique players a month to unlock a feature that reduces quality of life for those players to make a quick buck is really funny to me because it’s a speedrun of a phenomenon called “platform decay.” I can’t say the more commonly used name for this because we’re in the public section of the forum and it has a naughty word in it. It basically describes how popular digital services rise and fall. First, they’re good to their customers and they gain traction. Then, because they already have an established userbase, they try to take advantage of those customers to make more money. Then, they die.

Roblox really made it so you can only annoy your players with ads if you have enough players to lose. Incredible.

Make it a 13+ experience and make a skip ad gamepass if you can’t watch it. big money for the mobile game style game devs (i am not endorsing doing this, please god don’t do this)

Even if the user os 13+, there is not an 100% gaurentee that the user will even see the ad

Yeah, like I said, the greedy devs who’ll do this really don’t care. And like I said, make a Skip Ad devproduct if you can’t watch the ad so that you make money either way.

Can we get ads that cover parts of the screen? Like a short form content video. Maybe some subway surfer roblox game on half the screen?

You’d be making another AdService.

AdService had to be cancelled due to too many ads and not enough advertiser interest.

This is awesome Roblox thank you!!! I’m happy to see over time more options for monetization are on the table.

When will VideoFrames get further updates?

Roblox developers handing over their personal, sensitive information to do DevEx the Robux they’ve earned: :grinning:

Roblox developers handing over their personal, sensitive information to earn more Robux to DevEx: :rage:

I completely understand how players are upset about gatekeeping 17+ features and experiences to ID-verification, but it doesn’t make too much sense to me why developers act as if ID verification is forcing them to forfeit their information, which they already provide to Roblox (technically not even Roblox, but a third party (Veriff, Tipalti) that specializes in this service).

How do group holders get access to this with ID verification…? I really prefer not to give my ID just for a group holder account. Immersive ads never gave much robux anyways…
Guess back to solo profile game dev for me
