Inserting Decals sets name to "Decal"

I bulk imported a bunch of .png files that were converted to Decals within the Images section of Asset Manager. They have various descriptive names that I want to keep when using them. When I insert them into my place, they are inserted as Decals with name “Decal”.

Is the name being set to “Decal” expected? Any workaround?

From my experience, this happens by default when you drag the image from the asset manager into the place. To keep the name you imported them with, you should instead select the part you’re gonna display the decal on and then left-click on the decal from the asset manager, this way it spawns both into the place and the explorer with the custom name you gave it. Hopefully this works for you.

Not working but maybe I’m misunderstanding something, here’s what I’m doing following your instructions:

  1. Images exist in Asset Manager
  2. Insert a Part into Workspace, have the Part selected
  3. Left-click (double click) the Image in Asset Manager

Still gets inserted with name “Decal”

That’s weird, I recorded a video showing how it works in my studio testing out both methods.

  • Dragging into the place
  • Selecting and left-clicking

This leads me to think it might be a difference in Studio’s settings, maybe you could solve it by reinstalling/resetting it.
You can also rename every single decal manually by pressing F2, although that would take you some time.
I also found this post related to your issue, you can try out the solution provided here and let me know if it worked for you.

This somewhat helped as now I understand that if you insert the asset through the Toolbox the name persists (although the name is “Images/[name]”, the solution you provided supposedly fixes this).

What I was trying to do is insert the asset through the Asset Manager after importing - this seems to always insert a Decal with name “Decal”. Doesn’t seem like this should be the expected behavior.

Apologies for the late reply. I also tried with the asset manager and was able to record this video. Apparently, it keeps the same name when I drag the decal in, so I think it might be a bug within your Studio. Maybe reinstalling it could help if the issue persists.

Ah ok seems dragging the decal into the 3D view has the expected behavior, I was trying to drag to Explorer. Weird behavior though, thanks for the help @ChiruDonut !
