Sounds like a great idea with the best of intentions! Now what if also:
you didnt block people from using words in their filter with your filter
this could apply to more places to post text, such as the in-game chat
we had the opposite of this, a whitelist, to allow certain words that would otherwise be filtered by roblox (this is a great idea with no possible chance of misuse. for sure.)
This is a good update, but my first thought was how this could easily be abused.
Example: Theres a group which has the group wall / forum turned on, and they have a game with several unscripted gamepasses with “scammy” intents. They could easily block words such as “scam”, “purchase”, and “gamepass” to stop people from calling them out.
Are there any safeguards in place to prevent groups from abusing this feature? Or even the ability to restrict groups who do?
Could you do the same or something similar for requests for words that shouldn’t be filtered? I have a dinosaur game and the amount of dinosaur names that get tagged is ridiculous.
I hope the forums actually are arriving soon because they’ve been promised for years on end. They would finally make groups/communities worthwhile and not just a ground for sending out announcements or a doorway for discord. I think it’s great for ROBLOX to have an actual central place for ROBLOX discussion on its own site again.
I know you guys say you doing the best to have better moderation down the line and have been telling us for a while that we as developers would be able to control the environments we made for users, though you have also said we would be able to let certain stuff and allow our own words back at RDC, and like he said I hope you guys have thought about all the possible issues with the filter as is.
Hello, I want to ban some bad and useless words, some are able to write it on the community, but when i’m trying to ban the word it say i can’t because Roblox already banned this word, but players can write it. Explain me
Probably because it’s likely already banned when it contextually makes sense for it to be banned? Why try to silence criticism instead of just addressing that criticism directly?
I get what you’re saying, but the issue here is that players are saying things like “this game sucks” not because of real criticism, but because they got banned for cheating.
I’m the owner of Ophelia, and I’ve actually received several pieces of constructive feedback in the past, players pointing out specific things that could be improved. I really appreciate that kind of input and always take it into account.
But in this case, it’s not constructive feedback, it’s just frustration and an attempt to damage the game’s image.
That’s why I wanted to block words like “sucks” not to silence real feedback, but to keep the environment respectful and prevent toxic behavior.
Then why are you not just blocking words like “banned” instead? Surely that would achieve what you want without potentially inhibiting people with legitimate criticisms of your game.
Though I can see the new Block Words feature as a useful tool to cut down on spam, uncivil behavior and such, I also get the sneaking suspicion Roblox is turning community owners into unpaid moderation interns with the additional burden of having being responsible for what members post, thereby incentivising community owners to minimize user input to manage risk of moderation for actions that they themselves didn’t do.
People get banned for saying “Hi”. Do we, community owners, have to be that strenuous?
I definitely don’t think it should be visible to everyone – if people can see exactly what you’ve blocked, it’s much easier for them to find ways to bypass it, etc. Same reason Roblox is never going to reveal how the moderation system works.
(And sometimes you just don’t want people to know what you have blocked.)
Warning! This post contains strong language. Thanks for understanding.
I recently encountered an issue while trying to add certain words to the blacklist using the new feature. I attempted to add the word “ƑЦ₵Ҡ”, but received an error message saying: “One or more of your words may not show up in the list as they are already blocked by Roblox.”
At first, I was glad - thinking Roblox had finally filtered this word on its own. But as it turns out, that wasn’t the case. I received a new post, and the word is still not being filtered, as shown in the image below. (posted on July 18, 8:58 PM utc-4)
Can you add option as well to include words only available. Sounds useless but if combined with blocked words can make it so:
Allow characters only from the official English alphabet ascii table
This way the bypass is impossible for characters like: “a” (English) and “а” (Bulgarian) because only English ones are acceptable.
Sure this way some languages would completely be impossible to chat with but what stops you from adding their letters as well and the blocked words like “http” to avoid any spam on the wall.
In my opinion is the best way to fight spams on the group wall.
What do you guys think?
Sounds like a great idea!
Whatever.
Totally useless!

EDIT:
Or maybe an option to decide which language to accept?
I think i’m gonna censor words like STFU and others that have a offensive meaning with these
No idea why they added this but you can replicate it with an script
