Introducing the Game Fund

To my understanding, they want the avatar’s in-game to be your platform’s avatar, that way anything you buy on the Roblox marketplace can be worn inside of the game. It makes the most sense as well because that’s more appealing to everyone involved as a lot of people have spent a lot of robux on the marketplace.

I probably won’t be applying due to that, it limits the kind of games I want to make by a lot (ie: Armor/Weapons would look weird/off on the newer roblox avatars which is why I stick to R6).

Well it’s all just speculation anyway, that’s just how I interpreted it. For all I know it could mean something completely different. They were really vague with the, “Prioritization”. I’m sure they did that on purpose though, granted I don’t know the reason why they would.

What is your idea for your game fund project? Mine was a RPG game with all the bosses/enemies being animated using IK as it’s something I haven’t tried making before.

I thought so as well initially, but the prompt above covers that base so now I’m not so sure

Well my studio is going to be applying with our MMORPG that we’ve been working on diligently for the past 5 months. I’m not really sure if it’s the type of game that roblox would want to go for, but we might as well apply for it regardless.

They do kind of both seem to be relatively about the same thing, but leveraging the items on the marketplace is a bit different… I.E. you could make people have to pay Robux to be able to use their own avatars or anything like that. But I think in the use case that Roblox is aiming for, is something like Adopt-Me. As the post in general seems to cater more towards that style of game.

Do you know if this 500K can be used to pay salaries for all members including the project head? because if it is then I think it can be worth it for me to give it a shot.

The application process requires a budget report, so ultimately however you decide to use that budget is up to you. That also means that Roblox might not like how you decide the budget is going to be spent and reject you for it. I do know that majority of game design’s costs come from having to pay your employees. So it would make sense if the majority of the budget was being used to pay the developers.

Whatever is funded by roblox is to support the development of the game. If that includes paying devs, buying new equipment, or whatever it may be, then yes. However I assume there needs to be some form of guarantee that the project will be completed in order to receive funding.

By the looks of it, Roblox is going to be helping out in some sort of way towards your team reaching the end goal of releasing the game. Although they require a lot of planning as I stated before, before they’ll even accept people. So it seems like only serious developers will be accepted.

a bit off topic but you should consider using ui aspect ratio for the circles to make them 1:1 in length and width so it doesnt look stretched

Which circles are you referring to? Are you talking about the + / - for the group toggle window that’s right below the level? Or both the Level and that?

the plus sign and all keybind UI elements

I see, I’ll keep that in mind, thanks. I personally don’t have an issue with it not being a circle though

Gotcha, it just really really bothers me since it’s so simple to add and makes the ui look 100% nicer.
Anyway I’m gonna ponder over this game fund thing since 500k min funding is really appealing.

Just come up with a really good game idea and pitch it! Can’t go wrong with at least applying for it, and regardless of what type of game it is as long as it’s seen as high quality I doubt Roblox will overlook it.

Wow that is an insane amount of funding! It’s a huge win for the teams who get in! Good luck

To anyone without much experience pitching, I 1000% recommend watching this Game Developer’s Conference talk. I was a game design major (and graduated with a minor as to leave a year early to start full-time game development!) from Indiana University, where we actually had to develop and pitch to industry professionals for our final project. Everything the speaker says in this video lines right up with how we were taught to pitch, except it’s condensed down into a single compelling presentation.

Best of luck to y’all! And remember, a good idea really only works if you can pull it off, so make sure you show that your team is capable of completing what they’re pitching - including a slide or two on past works + prior experiences working together will certainly help a ton :+1:

Ahh! I feel like I made one or two mistakes shown in this video(visuals/prototypes). Ah well, I’m confident with what I have almost everything else I have… Great video nonetheless, it’d definitely support people who haven’t created an application yet.

Edit - I do have visuals and prototypes but they are just links, should’ve prepared some videos or images then properly formatted them into the document.
