I don’t believe asking people to apply for you is allowed.
They might do it yearly depending on the success of candidates gained by this time next year. I have high hopes for this program thusfar, can certainly be used well.
Programs like that take months to plan and execute as they need to clear out any legalities, secure funds and create any other resources used for this program. It isn’t a coincidence.
This is a great idea, $500,000?! That’s a LOT of money. Super excited to see what games are coming out!
This is an amazing feature! I wonder if they would make an exception for a 17 year old in college haha
I mean just give them your ID. You also sign a contract. They will find a way to confirm your age. Many services ask for ID to verify age.
I meant that you don’t find premium users in “Escape Thanos Luca Obby 99999 Levels!” Because most are too old to find such a game even mildly entertaining. When I said “mature” I was referringa to their brain development.
@Azorpine606
Theoretically speaking, the same could go for their brain development, too. Premium status does not necessarily state how mature a user is brain-development wise. I’d say it’s moreso a mix between their age and what they have learned themselves. However, you do have a fair point, as many premium users are older from what I have seen and therefore have more developed brains.
That could, theoretically speaking, be possible, though I feel the reason it’s 18+ is they may need you to sign a legal document due to the large amount of real money involved in this (I’m not sure since I’m just 16. This is what I assume is happening.) So, if you were to become an exception, you would likely need a parent to sign it, or would need to wait until you are 18.
The average Premium user is older than the average Roblox user. That’s a fact.
You could very well be correct here- With how many I’ve seen with premium, as well as the fact real life money is involved in purchasing it, I assume a majority of them are at least 13+ and therefore act very mature and are acting this way due to their brain being more developed. I was unable to find any sort of statistics on the average premium user’s age, so for now, I must agree until I find concrete evidence otherwise if I do.
$500,000 minimum is insane. Never thought I’d see the day where such large amount of funds were being used in this way. It’s really refreshing to see how far Roblox has come.
This new project is really going to bring high quality experiences to Roblox and I’m very excited to see what comes out of it.
What exactly does this mean? It’s sort of vague and because so I feel like it’s going to be interpreted incorrectly.
Why 18+? There are a lot of good developers that are under 18. Younger people know what games they like which means they could also have the best ideas and gain visits from younger players on the platform. Maybe make it around 13+ so you don’t get any applications that aren’t serious. Overall, I like the idea and I think a lot of other people will to, but lots of people that are passionate but also under 18 may be feeling left out as this may be the only opportunity we get.
It’s most likely because there’s quite a bit to go through for doing contracts for people under 18, considering the amount is really large it’s not small.
They probably don’t want to take the risk? It would be good if there are other programs like this for under 18 too.
I only have 1 question. How many projects get accepted or it just depends from a number of applicants? Maybe a real question is what is the max amount of projects that can get accepted?
Also better learning resources on roblox. would help developers push boundaries. the current ones are very mediocre and not there arent many advanced tutorials for things like scripting and animation
I have a question, what if a developer wants to form a studio but currently is the only dev and is looking for developers, how would they go about applying as they are going to hire developers if they get the cash.
I like this idea, but it has an issue. To my understanding, this is being done to help make Roblox be less of a ‘kid’s game’ platform as has been the goal for the past new experimental features (new textures, new avatars, etc.) but this is going on it completely wrong.
If you want more Roblox games that aren’t geared towards kids, you don’t want to try to shape the user experience to feel less child-like through things like higher resolution textures - you want to shape the developer experience by giving them the ability to make more impressive things. Look at platforms like Unreal Engine - with a few clicks of your mouse and a bit of configuring, you have a graphics engine that could rival the look of real-life. Unity allows developers to customize their experience for every platform and type - 2D, 3D, with crazy mechanics, or with simple ideas, and it’s also open to major customizations and plugins. Roblox, however, is limited in all of these fields. It doesn’t have the best of graphics, it doesn’t allow people to import large meshes, it doesn’t let developers do as they please when it comes to choosing the outcome of their game - they’re given a few materials, a strict 3D setting, and not much else (unless they’re good at scripting).
Roblox Studio is a joke compared to basically every other development platform - it’s made for children, after all. If you want to make a platform that isn’t geared towards just children you need to also make the development not geared towards just children. The Developers and the games they make are the platform after all. We want flexibility and more complexity. Throwing money at the problem won’t fix the issue of people not wanting to develop using studio.
I kind of disagree with what you’re saying. I feel it’s very simple to create high quality content in Roblox studio. Roblox studio also has many advantages over using Unity/UE4. Team create is one of the most prominent features. Being able to work as a team and see everything update as you’re doing it is simply amazing. And then of course, all the client/server issues and dealing with all the network stuff on UE4/Unity is a headache compared to how simplistic it is with Roblox. As far as graphics go, it’s all about the assets you use and what not. My studio has a very talented level designer so our project is simply breathtaking compared to most (In my opinion :D). And of course, look at the simple ways to make mobile and what not compatible with PC, it’s all built in for the most part. The advantages of using Roblox Studio compared to some of these other game engines just far outweigh any cons for developers such as myself.
How would this funding work? Couldn’t someone just apply, get the money, and work on a game without using the full funding/pocket the rest? and does the game need to actually be released and will there be repercussions for not releasing a game in an allocated amount of time?
