Introducing the Game Fund

Will submitters be notified, if their application is declined?

If developers submit an application for the game fund, any idea about how soon will they be notified? Just curious what if developers got funding from somewhere else before getting your reply. Anyway to check the application status?

We will reach out if the application is selected. Thanks!

We are keeping applications open. Feel free to apply if you have a project. Thanks.

Is there a way to revert applications? I was skimming through the application and accidentally submitted it. My personal details were put in the application, but not the game design PDF. If I submit it again, will my previous one be disregarded?

Hi there @mkivtt!

I hope all is well!

A couple teams that applied never received a confirmation email about applying and we were all wondering the time frame in which we’d hear back whether we would not be moving forward or if we were given the opportunity for an interview.

Whether it’s 1-3 months or longer, a lot of us are unsure how far we should be scheduling our teams and so on, while wondering about the timeframe in which we’d hear back!

They did do it for the Accelerator, it was nice so a lot of us didn’t waste our time waiting for an email that was never going to come.

Almost two years later, we see that Game Fund is a complete failure. Why was it that the accelerator was removed in favor of this?

The accelerator created some of the biggest games that helped Roblox grow, including Adopt Me, Phantom Forces, and Bad Business. The program has issues, but those issues should have been fixed instead of outright removing the program.

Game fund, on the other hand, is a complete and utter failure. Here are the USD evaluations of some game fund games:

  • Neon Knights: $10,000 (under 500k visits)
  • Rolling Thunder: $30,000 (~12.5M visits)
  • Winds of Fortune: $15,000 (~5M visits)
  • Ruin: $1,300 (under 300k visits)
  • Riotfall: $16,000 (~7.5M visits)

This is embarassing. What about some accelerator games?

  • Adopt Me: $75,500,000 (~32.5B visits)
  • Phantom Forces: $5,000,000 (~4.5B visits)
  • Bad Business: $1,000,000 (~375M visits)

Not only was the accelerator cheaper for Roblox ($14k per intern), but it resulted in more engagement and revenue for the platform. This was such a backward approach.

Roblox can always reverse the decision and open up the internship with some improvements. But nope, why would they do that?

What about the 100 or more accelerator projects that never went anywhere? So far Game Fund seems to have a much higher success rate.

I think that is a result of how the game fund is more selective in what applicants go through. Accelerator allowed for a more broad spectrum of developers to go in and even if those projects didn’t go anywhere if the people on the team are worth their salt they have likely continued on to another project or got a job at a company paying them a software engineering entry salary.

We shouldn’t ignore the intern experience credibility that the accelerator gave to those individuals who entered inside.
