Introducing Videos in the Marketplace!

Not going to lie, I can see this being used as a glitch effect using a literal glitch. It might be due to it not being able to easily support unanchored blocks since it has to render it constantly + physics? (When anchored blocks are not interacted with, they’re in a sort of “sleep” mode)

This might be bypasses by uploading 2 videos that have one part of the video seperated into another video, and then you combine the videos on a single brick and play them at the same time. (Sorry if that was confusing)

Anyway, this is really a cool update! This is just one step forward for the platform!

Yeah! Just what I thought. There should be a solution to that, for example not supporting it and just turning it off.

Will we be able to install it on curved meshes?

now is there a way to change the ID of the video in-game (via an int input)?

Hey, as you have mentioned animated textures, would the performance be minimal? I’d like to try out animated textures, which got me wondering on whether I should use this new class or pre-loaded images (spritesheet) - which would be better for performance?

Thanks!

I’m suggesting that if the client is far from the part with a VideoFrame, that part’s VideoFrame should be paused. If the client is near that part, then the VideoFrame could be playing if the Playing property is set to true.

I feel this was obviously coming, you did with with the bloxies. I am thankful for making it available for all developers. They now don’t have to use more parts then usual. I really am excited to see how people will use this! Thanks roblox xD

Can’t wait to see all the cinema games use this, nice to see roblox is upgrading the platform for more features!

It’d make more sense for it to be only for the beta program, and make it cost a lil bit more than audio on full fixed release

add rbxassetid:// before the asset id

O.O Can’t wait!
However, there are some concerning questions.
If this ‘video’ were to be used in a cinema…

  1. If an actual, famous movie was played, would it get copyright-strikes?
  2. Is there a set time limit for videos?
  3. Is there going to be a file size limit?
  4. How far can the video be stretched?
And an off-topic question, will this video feature get better quality in the future? (fps, resolution)

Is there going to be a resolution cap? I’d want a video for 2D frames able to go up to 2k (1440p) at least. 1080 is fine, too.

It’s a JavaScript error ("about:blank" is an invalid URL) with the Roblox Develop Library that has been going on for several years. If you want this to be fixed right away, you can get an extension (on chrome and firefox) called BTRoblox. It enhances your experience with being able to preview results when searching for users, showing owned badges and items. Hell, it even fixes the audio preview issue.

Still would like Roblox to fix that issue instead of having to require a Chrome or Firefox extension to do the work :frowning:

What if somebody instead of using radio gamepasses (where you have a radio on your back) you instead have tv gamepasses (shove a tv on your back and play a video of your choice).

Honestly chaotic but probably alot of peeps would purchase that. Speakin of which, is the limit for the length of a video 30 or 10 seconds? And would it possibly be increased in the future or nah? (Also, how was the bloxy’s done? They’ve had a video or stream playing for a fairly long time, no real issues other than people blocking the screen or some getting FPS issues)

Currently the only way you can sort of make them transparent is by using ui gradients inside the video frame. By adjusting the transparency of it you can sort of crop off the video sides. Wish there was a better way though.

That is a very interesting addition to the platform, and I see how it can be useful to let developers make their own videos in the future to add it to their games, but I have a huge concern about the moderation of these videos.

There have been countless attempts from users to add inappropriate content in some shape or form to the platform, and if the ability to upload your videos becomes open to all users, some users may try to upload inappropriate videos, and many of those people may try to use methods to bypass bot moderation.

My question is, how do you plan to moderate the videos? Will you need to get ‘‘verified’’ in some shape or form to upload videos in the future, or will it be open to any and all users?

I love the feature. I added instructions in my game if anyone hasn’t seen them yet (or you can look at the devforum post itself): New Roblox Video Feature - Roblox

Ever since I added videos to my game, mobile users have been experiencing crash every time they join the game. The rate of the crash for mobile is 70%. I am testing if this is true, disabling it at this moment.

Update on my previous post: It is true, my players are telling me that mobile are no longer experiencing the crash after I disabled videos.
