Introducing Videos in the Marketplace!

I remember this being a feature request like 3 - 4 years ago, it’s finally here, we’re blessed with another good update.

This is a great update! We’ve waited so long for something like this to come to Roblox, thank you.
Can’t wait to see what great things are made with this.

This would be really nice to potentially cut back a little bit on in-game cut scene RAM usage

I noticed how there is a slot for videos in the library, like
Models
Decals
Audios
Video
Meshes
Plugins
-So could you make a slot for animations. Its currently very hard to find animations from the developer community that want to publish them.
We have to go to animations in out inventories and hope what were looking for is at the bottom.

Also how do I publish a video?

Currently only Roblox themselves and a few other selected people can make Videos at the moment.

I think you guys might have miswritten text in VideoFrame api reference class at the VideoFrame.Video content

This is false information

I’ve made a video player for anyone to watch videos with:

Thanks for reporting this, we’ll look into fixing it.

As creative as that is, it sounds like a performance issue mess that would slow down servers.

Of course assuming that it’s dependent on the asset and how long the video is. I haven’t explored with this yet.

Meh. I kinda like and dislike this update at the same time.

Why i like:

This concept of videos on the marketplace is pretty good for developers who want to make cinema games, because in the past cinema games usually in the cinema only shows images not videos.

Why i dislike:

I feel the update of this is gonna make players with bad connection even worse because videos are like heavy for games and gonna make more lag.

Same here, but i have a bad device and good internet connection.

Anyways, keep up with the great work ROBLOX! :tada:

What if your video is 10 minutes long? Would it be free? NO! It should cost differently depending on video length.

Time for a double reply (Members should do this):
@FISHGROOT they’re probably gonna find a way around that, maybe limiting the number of videos, not allowing some devices to see videos, etc.

In Studio, in a running game, when a video is Playing = false and Looped = false, I can’t enable Playing and I need to enable Looped before.

sad that only two video are able to be played. Hope this changes soon!

It can open big oppurtunities such as making it support ParticleEmmitters! (a suggestion)

(just an example, this was made using spritesheets)

Im having problems with it. Sometimes when loading a new video it errors “Video is using a resolution that is not supported”. But theres no way to catch the error. I even tried to check for the video resolution after few seconds but cant seem to work. Sometimes resolution show as 0,0 sometimes not.

Is there any planned support for transparent video files, like .mov?

would love to be able to hook video frames to youtube videos, just a suggestion

I don’t think Roblox would allow that, due to moderation. Every content that anyone uploads has to go through moderation. If Roblox added support for external sources, Roblox would have to go through game files to find any external source links to check if they are “okay” to use, which takes like 10 times longer and is 10 times harder than moderating on Roblox’s website. Going through game files can be a bit of a hassle sometimes, especially when you’ve never developed on that game.

They actually already do this, you can add youtube videos as thumbnails on game pages.
