Hello, I was wondering whether a Roblox - Discord Voice Chat would be against the ToS. Something similar to what is shown in the video:
Summary: TheDevKing basically makes a voice chat system which connects to Discord. It moves players to different voice channels depending on which part of the map they are in. It uses a webhook and discord bot.
I’m looking to create a similar system, where players can sign up with a Discord User Id. A DM will be sent to the user to make sure that it is indeed them. (A Security code may also be added).
The players will be required to agree to the game’s ToS as well, which would include being over 13 years of age.
It’s not against the Roblox ToS as long as the game does not refer players to the Discord server. Mentioning the Discord server, or that the game supports Voice Chat through Discord, would be a violation as Discord is an off-site URL.
This is not allowed; your game can not have a ToS that imposes entry restrictions or an age requirement.
Even if you were to add a Gui to read and agree with the terms, anyone who is under 13 does not have the legal rights to agree or disagree with any terms. Adding ToS to your game has the exact same legal implications as not having a ToS: none.
Of course you would, but I suggest not doing that because people sometimes go on alt accounts or they might share the device with someone who has a different Discord account but they use the same Roblox account and it could break your game.
No, this is Personal Identifiable Information (PII) and can only be saved with consent from someone of legal age (Depending on country, 13+ or 16+ or 18+). Storing PII of kids is a serious offense under international privacy law.
Because it is not allowed to be asked or stored. This is how privacy law such as COPPA works.
With your theory, you could ask “Why would you not ask and store someone’s phone number? They must be at least 13 if they have a phone number so what’s the issue?” - I hope you see the issue.
COPPA is 13-. Discord is 13+. If you ask the roblox account on Discord and the user sends proof(Like setting a message in the profille or joining a game and saying a 4 digit code) will be fine.
Correct, which is why it is fine to ask for someone’s Roblox info on Discord, but not Discord info on Roblox. Everyone has to adhere to the rules of the platform (and international privacy law).
Then that whold still not break any rules, as discord is at a minimum 13+, So if a 13- user lies about theyre age, its the parents problem for any legal action.
This is not how privacy law works; it is your responsibility as you are asking <13 kids to provide their personal identifiable information. Any parent who sees this happen is in their full right to take legal action against your product.
Again, this is not the way it works. It would certainly be the most convenient way for you as you’d seemingly be able to ignore international privacy law, but like I’ve explained in numerous messages now: this is forbidden and it is your responsibility.
