I have played tons of tycoon games, but I have only seen the tycoon that actually can make you bankrupt. And it’s called retail tycoon.
I not sure that people will rage quit or spending tons of robux. This is a risk of making a tycoon game that can bankrupt.
I’m making pizza tycoon(Sandbox), you need to pay for staff, ingredients,Building, taxes, maintain, water&electricity.
Don’t worry, it depends on which difficulty to choose.
Every players will start off with normal difficulty.
Note:Can restart
As long as you can restart it’s fine and in my opinion a good thing. Just tell them in a tutorial that they can go bankrupt.
I don’t think anyone’s going to rage quit from going bankrupt. They may get frustrated, but I’ve never seen anyone get so annoyed that they’ve had to leave the game. And even if they do leave the game, they’ll probably come back and try again later.
Retail Tycoon is different to the normal tycoons, so it depends what you’re talking about. Compared to normal tycoons, it doesn’t have the automatic cash giver that gives you money, which you can spend by purchasing machines by standing on pads. They’re two different categories, while still utilising the same name. Could you elaborate more on what your tycoon is like?
Sandbox game, the tycoon game that is not sandbox is impossible to go bankrupt.
That would work better then. How hard will it be for a player to go bankrupt?
There are three difficulty you can choose you when you create a new save slot.
-Easy(Cheaper taxes, staff, etc.)(More Starting Cash)(Unlocked when you have 2.5M Cash on Normal difficulty)(Customers won’t tired of the same kind of pizza in a long time)(Lots of customers)
-Normal(Real life scale)(The only difficulty that you can select when you are first to the game)
-Hard(You need to pay more taxes, staff, etc.)(less Starting Cash)(Unlocked when you have 5M Cash on Easy difficulty)(Customers will tired of the same kind of pizza in a long time)(less customer)
Nice, I was planning to do a similar idea on one of my previous games. One thing I would point out is that you’re offering Easy for 2.5M cash. I doubt anyone’s going to use that after using Normal. Easy should be for the people who are new to the game, experimenting, or just want to play it easy. If I’m playing a game, and I’ve got so far as to get 2.5M, I’m not going to downgrade, I’m going to want to get to the next level, which is where Hard comes into play.
So you want to unlock the hard difficulty first?
Actually I think it’s too much for easy and hard mode, because i’m going to use USD for in game currency.
No, I think you should have Normal & Easy mode unlocked at first. Then later on, players can unlock Hard difficulty.
If you tell them in the toturial that they can go bankrupt then it’s fine.
There’s lots of ways you can go about it. You could make a rogue-lite type of thing, where players try to go as long as they can with the looming threat of loosing all of your progress and increasing difficulty over time. Or you could keep it in the casual genre and just have it has a consequence of really bad play.
I think most tycoon players are after the relaxed, no-stress experience. But at the same time, “hardcore” tycoons might be an unexplored niche with lots of potential.
You can appease both “chill” and “challenge” players by letting the player choose between different styles of play. One strategy is high risk, high reward, and high skill requirement. A different strategy is more relaxed, grindy and safe.
You don’t have to go all-in with the “permadeath”. You can let players progress by unlocking skills, a la Path of Exile, Rogue Legacy or tech trees from the Civ games.
That’s a good original game idea
I may want to help doing lobby and decorations on the map @DetailedModuler
I agree, I feel like a niche like this could separate the tycoon from others in its genre. I think it’s a great idea & really creative! Excited to see where it goes.
I think that as long as a player is aware that they can go bankrupt & knows how to progress more efficiently, this idea would work.
I myself had once played Retail Tycoon, so I will give my opinion here.
To be honest, it was a mixture of frustration and fun if that makes any sense. I liked how it was not at all going easy on you, that is what made it fun. It was frustrating because it was annoying to be in debt.
I do think it would be a great idea to include bankruptcy because I guess it makes it more fun.
