I am wondering if there is a way to block a user from DMing you or from reading your posts like most block features in other platforms.
I did look around and found this: New Forum Feature - Block User from PMing You
But it seems pretty old and I can’t find the feature. Apparently it is a feature in vanilla Discourse but I don’t see it here.
The mute option only mutes the notifications of the people that your following. It doesnt prevent them from DMing you or viewing your posts.
I don’t believe there is one built in, but if you feel the need to block someone then the chances are they are harassing you and breaking the community guidelines and I would reccomend either flagging all the posts you find inappropriate or directly contacting forum staff.
This forum should be a friendly and professional environment, if you feel someone is stealing that from you then that’s not right.
I would rather not bother staff every time I feel I do not want to be contacted by a certain user so I would rather just disconnect all methods of communication on this forum for them.
Well then the answer to your question is no, but as said if it is causing you issues I’ve personally had amazing experiences with forum staff and I’m sure they would be happy to help you find resolutions.
You can turn off direct messages directly from your settings. Do to this, go to Preferences > Notifications > Messages
You will then get this option to turn them on or off:
Please note, this turn off for everyone. There is currently no way to block specific users: 1 click and nobody can DM you.
Provided you’ve professionally and clearly told the person that you don’t want to be contacted, and the person continues to contact you anyway, then this is definitely a matter for the forum staff.
There should be no reason to block anybody in a professional environment, and that’s what the devforum is supposed to be.
Guess that will work, though i dont wanna block everyone from DMs that is why I was reluctant to use it. But I guess no plan is perfect so I will use that instead
Should be noted that anyone with the Leader trust level (staff, Community Sages) can bypass this setting, since it is required for us sending feedback messages.
