Do module scripts are back-end servers? It gives me an error because it is’t called from the back-end server but I am using module scrips (in studio)
module scripts can be back end, or front end depending on where they are required()
from. If you’re trying to get ID verified info on the client, you’ll need to use a remote event and fetch it from the server side.
Roblox doesn’t even do anything with your ID after doing some image processing to check if its real, they say its all saved locally and the raw data is removed afterwards.
Also it literally says that you can use phone number to verify too, something a lot of people probably already did for VC or whatever other reason.
Though if you’re looking for actual alt detection Roblox might be cooking something else, but for now you’ll have to choose between this or nothing.
Can this feature and the new experience guidelines get a crossover maybe? Like for instance, being able to make a realistic blood toggle available only for 13+ thus allowing us to make the game 9+ with some features restricted?
Pretty please?
Here’s a quick trick:
- Get a domain name for free on I won’t name or spend 5$/year for a dotcom
- Go to Cloudflare, set up email routing to all emails to your main e-mail
Congratulations, you got infinite emails, all distinct from eachother.
You can also do this with a Gmail, just add +smth between the name and the e-mail.
It gives the same error when using it in studio? Oh and I forgot to use require()
To everyone bugging out about “I’m not giving Roblox my ID!!1!”. Please re-read the thread.
Please notice that nice “or” between the two options. You don’t have to verify your government ID to be verified by this API’s standards.
This really felt like you advertising your game.
I would recommend reading over the documentation for the IsVerified method before concluding that you’re not going to be able to play games if your id is not verified.
“Returns a boolean value indicating that player’s verification status. When true, the player is verified. Verification includes, but isn’t limited to, non-VOIP phone number or government ID verification.”
Non-VOIP phone number simply means you have a phone number linked to your account that is not an Internet based phone number. Ideally you would already have a phone number attached to your account for 2FA.
That would be an soooo great feature! Like to see what the account age is set to, so you can customise the game for their age.
@xyrafrost This API does not make a web request when you call it. The property is queried before the user joins the experience, and the information is available immediately once they have joined the game server. You do not need to wrap it with a pcall
.
As a dev I can see the upsides to this, but also as a player, I could see the major downsides to this. Not only do some people not want to verify their actual identity, but also I could see this being used to make verified only levels, or even games entirely. Alt accounts are also very useful for testing things and such, and ruining alt accounts would be stupid. I’m glad you can verify with a phone number though, and not just with an ID.
Y’all gotta stop forcing people to verify with their IDs. We seem to live in an imaginary universe where building a digital footprint doesn’t matter. I get that we want to verify ages but, this is ultimately a platform that makes games through experiences. Stop reinventing the wheel and use ESRB ratings. Somehow Steam can do this very well. As can any other platform.
This isn’t just bc it’s Roblox. I wouldn’t give my ID to anyone. You can do a lot of damaging things with an ID if you have one. There’s a reason it’s a big deal when you lose it.
As echo’d on other posts, I’ve yet to see conclusive proof as to where the percent of verified users came from and what age group. The ~30% seems rather high.
Used to be optional and now, it’s forced.
Edit: Phone number or ID are still things I choose not to share. Phone number because, I am tired of being spam called by random callers and ID because, I value my privacy. Requirement without formal consent is the definition of being “forced” because, features are locked behind a wall unless you comply.
hows it forced? no ones forcing you to verify
this is stupid and does not solve the issue but just limits the amount of players ur game is gonna get
me when i need to send my biometrics so i can simulate roblox gambling or see roblox gore when i can do the same in steam or vrchat without sending my id
no ones forcing you to play gambling or gore on a platform made for kids
what if i wanna play them?? why do i need to send my biometrics
you do know this update has nothing to do with age restricting
I think it would be great for custom server explorers, because it would allow us to create servers for government ID verified players only, which should contain few to none cheaters given that alting will be extremely difficult as creating new account with government ID will be almost impossible unless the minority of cheaters are willing to commit identity fraud by using stolen government ID.
