JoyCon controller API

Discovered that JoyCons can connect to your computer, and have been able to play roblox with one of them!

Curently trying to get the camera to work with the 2nd joycon controller, but it would be nice if they were automatically set up or given an easier way to work with. I’m using a program called JoyToKey to help me with it.

UPDATE: Working with 2 joycons, just no diagonal camera control.

Only reason this’d be supported is if ROBLOX eventually gets a Switch port. Which would be pretty cool, but most likely isn’t happening any time soon.

Switch is just a tablet, so it’d be similar to developing for mobile, which would be dank.

There’s no first party support to connect the joycons to a PC so this doesn’t really seem suitable as feature request for now, considering you need to go through a third party tool to use them in the first place

Same terrible frame rate as most tablets too!

I wonder how big of a market Roblox could have on Switch. I’d be more concerned with Roblox getting through Nintendo though.

If they released it now it’d be huge since the player count is high and the game count is stupidly low.

If roblox released it now at launch, since there’s not that many launch games, it would be really successful. Doubt they would though.

It would take a long while to get that arranged, so if they wanted that they probably would have started on the port many months ago. It’s not just porting the software to the Switch and adding API for all of its features (buttons, controller types, events for disconnected joycons/controllers, etc), but they’d also have to convince Nintendo about the user-generated content being a good (safe) idea for players, and how both parties will profit from the app since they probably want it to be free on the Switch. And also, how is networking going to work out, since the Switch will have a paid service for anything related to multiplayer networking… all things to think about.

Either way, this is a bit off-topic, sorry

Any update on this, will this ever happen? I want to play roblox with joycons but it’s pretty hacky to work with.

we support any controller on windows that adhere to the xinput standard, so its really up to someone to write a a good piece of middleware to translate the joycon input into xinput.

Obviously if Roblox ran on the switch we would support joy cons, but as long as you are connecting them to a pc it needs to be properly mapped to Microsoft’s input standard, or Microsoft needs to add support for joy cons into their drivers.

A mapping software does work, but doesn’t work with all angles on the analogue stick. The best that I’m able to get is left right up down but not full 360° support
