The thumbing system is meant to be an “overall measure of public sentiment toward a game.”
If your game is absolute crap but offers a special reward such as admin commands for thumbing it up, there would be more thumbs up JUST for the reward thus dodging its purpose of measuring public sentiment towards that game.
What you should suggest is a way for players to anonymously send feedback along with their thumbs up/down
Perhaps it could be like other rating systems that use “1-5 stars”
I’d love this. It was great on YouTube, I miss it. “Thumbs Up/Down” system seems too “generalization” to me, if I thought a video was great I’d rate 5 stars, but if it wasn’t that good I’d do 4, I can’t do this with “Thumbs Up/Down”. Wish I could do it again on YouTube and with ROBLOX Games
Many studies found that the vast majority of people when given rating scales for things like videos will just rate with the maximum or minimum anyway to sway the rating more towards their opinion, hence why most companies just use thumbs up/down now.
Apps on the Apple Store can’t have things that affect gameplay in accordance to what you rate it on the website
So many games are like “Give us a 5 and you get a bonus!” but they can’t check, so they give it to you anyway
There should be more of a reward of thumbs up/thumbs downing, I agree, as the highest rated ROBLOX games have a ratio of 11:1. Compare it to Youtube videos where their ratio is in the 100s.
Although I disagree in general about having thumbs down visible, I have a paid test server, and for one day, I had it open for free, what was a flawless record of thumbs up got one thumbs down from someone I can never hear what they had wrong with it, and didn’t understand the game at all, or wanted to be a jerk since I usually charge to enter, that thumbs down in no way reflected public sentiment, and makes people weary to buy it now, since there aren’t very many votes on it in the first place, since it’s a paid test place (double negative towards popularity)
The thing i don’t like about the system, is there’s NO reset button, incase i’m making a new game, roblox add a button for BC + paid plox? i don’t mind paying 10k R$ to reset my game’s rate when over writing my game.
Regardless, creating a new place and using it in place would be more appropriate than resetting the ratings, because even then you still have your favorites, comments, etc. A thumbs reset would never be implemented, but perhaps a complete place reset (ratings, comments, favorites – all of it) would be. However, I don’t believe the functionality of that would be as optimal as creating a new place and deleting the old one, so I expect the site team to implement place archiving/deleting over a reset.
Those ratings are tied to your stats. You forfeit the ratings? You forfeit the stats. “Oh, look at this place that has 1 million visits and positive ratings because the creator reset the ratings and thumb-upped it with his alts – I’ll try it!” Come on master – use some common sense for a change.
