Locale Support for Translations

[Update] November 25, 2025

Hey Creators!

Roblox has a suite of localization tools that you can use to translate your experiences into different languages. Previously these tools haven’t allowed you to customize translations based on the player’s region - for example, showing “soccer” to English-speaking users in North America and “football” to other English-speaking players. Today we’re excited to launch support for locales within languages, which will give you the ability to add region-specific translations and spellings.

Supported locales

In our initial launch, we will support 8 locales (spanning 4 languages):

Locale Name Locale ID
English (United States) en-us
English (United Kingdom) en-gb
French (France) fr-fr
French (Canada) fr-ca
Portuguese (Brazil) pt-br
Portuguese (Portugal) pt-pt
Spanish (Spain) es-es
Spanish (Mexico) es-mx

How to add locale-specific translations

You can add locale-specific translations in the Localization page for your experience on Creator Hub. On this page, you can add supported languages. Once you’ve enabled the languages you want, click “Translate” in the top right corner.

You’ll see a list of target languages on the left. For languages that have Roblox-supported locales, you’ll see subheadings under the parent language for global and locale-specific translations.

Add translations that are universal for that language (i.e. not specific to a locale) to the “Global” section, and add locale-specific translations to the corresponding sections. If a locale-specific translation is present, it will override what is in the “Global” section for users in that locale.

You can also add locale-specific translations for your experience source language if they are supported.

How locales work in experiences

Users will be able to select their locale in the Account Settings “Language” field. They will also be able to set their per-experience locale preferences in the “Experience Language” dropdown in the experience settings menu.

The newly supported locales will appear in these dropdowns. If a user selects one of them, they’ll be shown any locale-specific translations added in Creator Hub.

What’s next

In the next few months, we plan to add automatic translation support for locales for user generated content. Looking even further ahead, we will continue to expand the number of locales we support, and locale support coverage across the platform. Our long term vision is that Roblox feels native for all users.

This is nice but I’d like to see the translators get fixed first because they are very very broken

Okay, but the Open Cloud translation API doesn’t return anything.

Yeah it seems to be producing weird mistakes for us (in French at least), missing letters for example. It’s also translating things just incorrectly, making up words at times.

Hi @Ed_Win5000, @BonkuraMan, and @Beloathed: thanks for the replies so far. Would it be possible to submit a dev forum bug report for your use cases with more details? That would be ideal; even duplicate reports of the same problem are helpful as they will signal boost the issue and provide data points to help identify fixes.

A lot of games can be more innovative with this function, but when are audios going to be able to translate?

My use case would be translating text strings in real-time for players for strings created in real-time, like global announcements. So far, nothing is returned when I call the API. I recall trying to call it a few weeks ago and it returning a 404 error.

cant wait for this to fully release! i really want robux balance and number stats in leaderstats to get thousand separated by comma instead of period since thats how it is for latam spanish rather than spanish from spain. by the way, can you guys add options to see stuff without automatic translations? i dont like its getting forced everywhere (home page, game pages, studio, games). sometimes i have to see stuff without translations and its annoying having to change my account language for that :backhand_index_pointing_right: Bring back "Translate to original language" button

Of course. I’ll write it. The short version is translator randomly switches languages for no reason, including to locales unspecified in the code

Slight problem with that vision, it won’t be native to anyone since there won’t be anyone left next year

Otherwise, I do appreciate additional accessibility
However, something I’ve noticed is that the mobile app seemingly can’t show untranslated game names/descriptions

When are you gonna add Amazigh (Morocco’s Native language) instead of Arabic?

My thread detailing on how I’d rather have French and Amazigh set as Default instead of Arabic has been ignored for a while now.

Treating Morocco (or North Africa) as Arab is not only disrespectful but you also erase its actual ethnicity, are South Americans Europeans because they were Spanish colonies?

Wel Vietnam have the stuff like this,
so i suggest adding Vietnamese too (vnn-vns) (vn north - vn south)

Please add an option to specify context when automatically translating text. For example the word “train” could refer either to a vehicle or to the activity.

What locales do you plan to add in the future? Do you plan to add Swiss German?

We won’t be able to speak on Roblox next year

translation, but just no words.

Could we see 24hr time support next? Possibly through a DateTime API extension like DateTime.is24hour() that indicates a user uses 24hr time instead of 12hr.

:warning: Due to a stability issue, the new locales will be temporarily unavailable for selection via the in-experience switcher. We are working on a fix and expect it to be available across all platforms within the next two weeks. In the meantime, locales can still be selected via account settings, and any translation overrides that creators save should remain unaffected.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and appreciate your patience as we ship the fix!
