Hello,
I am currently making something similar to a FIFA Ultimate Team Card (See picture below). My only concern is whether the use of a club’s icon such as Barcelona,Juventus or Real Madrid or any other club would make me eligible to get a copyright strike.
Please note that I am making my card from scratch that’s why the only concern is the Club’s logo. Having to use a different logo would ruin the concept I have in mind.
If you are not in any way shape or form including any monetisation on the game then you should be good, however if you plan on monetisation I wouldn’t recommend even including player’s name, picture, club etc.
Player’s picture definitely not. Player’s name I am not entirely sure, I don’t know if changing it from “Messi” to L.MESSI would make a difference? However Club’s logo is the main concern for me.
Even without monetization, stealing copyright assets is theft and not legal. Short answer @L3AGLE: you can make your own logo, which is the most plausible alternative. Using such images is not a permissible option.
Personally when it comes to legal stuff there are some steps you can take. Now you can’t go and use the teams name or their logo straight up. I’m not sure if you’re in the US but there is an imitation law where if they’re not too similar you can use it. But keep in mind things within the logo like the soccer ball might be copy righted. Maybe email someone in U.S. Copy Right Office or what ever country you’re in’s copy right agency.
I like your logo, my idea is to instead of making for example: a Barcelona team you can make a “Blockcelona” team, and if they have a ball, you can change it to a block. Maybe that helps you and i like your logo, i repeat
