Make it possible to follow users in-game again

For context, the ability to follow users by using the player list was a feature years ago, but was discontinued in 2020 due to “scalability constraints” according to an engineer (1). However, the engineer mentioned that there was a possibility of it returning in the future. Because it’s been 5 years and not much has been said regarding this feature since then, I’ve decided to file this feature request to remind Roblox how important and helpful it was. I feel like this feature has been forgotten, and it’s a great opportunity to promote interactions.

As a Roblox user, there isn’t a way for me to follow users in-game. Currently, users can only be followed by going to their profile on the website/app. However, what if the user leaves the game before I’m able to follow them, and I don’t remember their username. Reimplementing the follow feature to the player list would make it easier for users to form connections with others while they’re in a game.

If Roblox is able to address this issue, it would improve my user experience by making it possible and more convenient to follow and connect with others in-game.

Being able to join a party with players you don’t have added would fulfill this purpose and more.

Yeah, this feature would especially be useful so I don’t have to either note someone’s username down or friend them every time I need their user for any purpose while in a game

I would absolutely love for this feature to come back, but maybe add an “rate-limiter” thing to the follow so people don’t spam click the Follow and Unfollow, but this feature would be seriously amazing for socialization and more.

Could it make sense if this wasn’t added? I don’t think so, but let’s create demand.
