This was a rather old idea I left behind years ago, but me and my friend recently picked it up again and continued adding content and changes for us to do something during the holidays.
It is currently not finished, still need to add roads, buildings and infrastructure. I haven’t got around to start reprogramming all the mechanics of the game since we are focussing on finishing the map.
I scrapped the original game title, logos, scripts and kept the existing roads/buildings since I have a different scope for this project and the scripts used depreciated and non-functioning code that needs to be rewritten anyway.
Its an open world zombie survival game insired by an asset flipped unity game I played on the school computers during the rona times. I won’t link the site as it is sketchy and filled with ads.
2021 Old build
(Originally posted on my old post)
My old map was entirely unfinished and only the roads were placed down. I guess my original plan was too ambitious at the time causing me to give up and move on. Additionally the map was originally this small. The new map would expand to something much bigger than this.
This is also the only screenshot I was able to find.
Recent Developments (2024)
Screenshot of the progress done so far. The pink bricks will become invisible barriers to prevent players from escaping from enemies
The town players would walk to
Really simple houses
Statue of me shooting a bow and my friend drifting while holding a gun
One of the roads though a dense forest.
Cutscene (Video)
This is the cutscene players would watch while the game performs some map improvements like creating powerline wires or fixing trees (which takes a while). If I were to adapt this game for multiplayer, players would also watch this to wait for their friends to join in.
Music
Yes, I did compose the music for this but only a really basic and not over-the-top scary sounding one. I wanted a mysterious sounding background music to go along the loading screen. You can hear an example of the music on the cutscene video above.
I used OpenMPT (open source) and some free instruments to make the music. This is to also replace the old original music I made back in 2021 which is honestly terrible.
Summary
Looking back at what this game would’ve become I regret overthinking things and eventually moving on to smaller projects. I now just want to have fun making maps with my friend and possibly learn a few things on the way. I have become better with modeling, scripting and music composition all these years later so this project is an excuse to test out my skills.
