Model Level of Detail

Currently it is difficult to mass level of detail maps. This could be changed by my simple idea.

Model level of detail.

  • Each model has RenderFidelity, Precise or Automatic
  • Model rendering follows a hierarchy, with the top ancestor determining render fidelity
  • A single building could be set to Automatic, and all parts would render as LOD, and some coloring

It would be so great if I could take a building model and flip a switch for the whole thing. Buildings generally would simplify to a simple block structure far away. I have seen fortnite do this automatically with all objects.

If Roblox added this in, large maps would be easier to manage overnight.

I believe Roblox is already working on implementing this.

Have you checked the Roadmap?

Dang, must’ve missed it. Even did a search on a forums and nothing comes up for ‘model LOD’. thanks
