The expansion of the Roblox Developer Forum is one of our most difficult and important challenges. One aspect that makes this task particularly demanding and strenuous is encouraging a positive and constructive atmosphere while welcoming community members who exhibit good character among their fellow developers. This includes their behavior outside of the Developer Forum since as a community we are leveraging multiple channels for communications both official like our forums and unofficial like Twitter and Discord. Your membership in the forums is a privilege and predicated on your continued commitment to a healthy, welcoming community.
We would therefore like to ask everyone in the developer forum to ensure they never use their membership status in the Roblox Developer Forum as a way to participate in or encourage cyber bullying incidents or harassment, either on the Roblox platform or through third-party channels. Please understand that this is a major change in our forum moderation policy to ensure the safety and well being of our overall community. This has been implemented as we evolve the forums and to encourage positive behavior among the community we’ve developed together.
We want everyone to continue using third-party channels without worrying too much about what Roblox will perceive as negative behavior. We are only referencing extreme incidents where one or more of our members could potentially be using their status as a member of the Developer Forum as a way to validate the targeting of specific users within or outside of our community. If you see any such negative interactions on third-party channels please make sure to email a report to devrelations@roblox.com. Together we can continue building a positive, constructive, and friendly developer community which actively encourages positive behavior among peers. If you have any questions or concerns, please post in this thread and we will make sure to post a reply whenever possible.
Positive behavior within the developer community is rewarded with the following:
Developer Exchange Program.
Promotions on our social media channels.
Opportunities to participate in the creation of official Roblox event games.
The ability to participate in the beta users program and receive beta access to new features.
Gotta be careful of fake users though. I’ve come across a few accounts with my username that aren’t me on various 3rd-party sites. (In fact, I never use this username anywhere else, except Twitter kind of.) Would be unfortunate to lose a member on here because someone pretended to be them somewhere else.
Is there a method to validate whether or not a user on a 3rd-party channel really is who he/she claims to be? Or is it just the “above reasonable doubt” sort of thing?
All that being said, this is a good policy update.
Not sure what to do about sites that Roblox doesn’t let you connect to, but there’s a slot in settings for you to put your official Twitter handle on your Roblox profile.
I believe what this policy is saying is that Roblox won’t be policing you on third-party sites. However, if they receive complaints that you are using your elevated status as a developer forum member to seriously harass or bully individuals in the community they may take action.
