New Game Sort: "Recommended For You"

A great feature would be the ability to select a “not interested” and a “more like this” option on each of the games. I feel like for individuals (especially an older audience) the ability to make it clear on what we like and dislike can result in a more accurate recommended for you page.

Here’s another part of feedback about the new sort:
I have only played a few simulators and still occassionally hop it on those, but here’s what is my Recommended For You sort right now:

It’s 90% Simulator games.
Read this thread for opinions from me and other Roblox developers about Simulators:
https://devforum.roblox.com/t/why-you-should-refrain-from-making-simulator-games-nowadays/590796
It pretty much sums up that about 80% of simulator games are too much repetitive.
I do not blame the Simulator genre as there are some Simulators that have non-repetitive and good gameplay, but the others are mostly repetitive.

As other people have said, having an option saying “I am not interested in X” would be a great improvement for the sort.

I’ve decided to “check” why you may be having this issue. It’s because your badges are 90% from simulators and you have a decent amount of them favorited. The filter doesn’t “choose” games to be perfectly aligned with your needs. But it does seem to align with the multitude of simulator/clicker games you do play. “Good” simulators games are decided by play time and like ratio, all the games recommended to you have good ratios and a decent amount of players. So the filter does seem to be working but you are digging yourself a hole by “trying” simulators out. It just adds to what the filter thinks you “like”. There really isn’t a solution for your issue as you have only been playing simulator games recently which means only simulator games will be recommended so branching into new categories could breathe fresh air into your personalized filter.

For me, the filter works out really nicely, I get no simulators as I rarely/hardly ever play those. But instead I’m getting games I’m actually interested in.

Though this is all speculation. But I do have to say, good job on the filter and whoever worked on it :+1:

This is a great feature and I have found some great games from this section, but many of the games that show up here are of no interest at all. I’m seeing adopt and raise games and simulators, none of which I enjoy playing, so it does need some work. But overall, this is a great new feature and will for sure help out small games and new developers.

Hi, I saw this awhile ago but have not yet commented on it. So I thought I’d do so now.

I think this is an amazing idea. It should ideally help present players with more games they may like, even if they’re not necessarily popular. Which will in turn bring more attention to newer/less popular games that may not otherwise get a chance to be discovered, which is pretty awesome imo.

I decided to go through my entire list of recommendations and write down how many of them I’d actually be interested in, as well as a few other stats.

Here’s what I found:

stats

Number of Recomended games: 55
-
Games I am very interested in: 13/55 (8 I had not played previously)

Games I might be interested in: 21/55 (34/55 if you also count above category)

Games I am not interested in: 26/55
-
Games that are similar to games I play: 46/55
-
Games I’ve already played: 7/55

Games I’ve never played: 48/55
-
Games with less than 2k players: 52/55

Games with less than 50 players: 15/55

-Random notes:

  • It was roughly 63% effective in reccomending games that I would like to play, and only showed me 7 games that I had previously played.
  • The majority of the games recommended had between 30-1.5k players. The lowest player count was 9, the highest was 8k. This was on a Monday night.
  • I was recommended 8 games that I had never played before but am very interested in.
  • The majority of the games I play are roleplay centred games of various genres. 20 of the recommended games were in this category
  • I also play military/fps games sometimes, although not quite as often. 26 of the reccomended games were in this category,
  • the other 9 were tycoons, simulators, or minigames. which I pretty much never play.

Overall it worked pretty well in recommending at least a few less popular games that I might enjoy playing. <3

Thank you for this update! The new sort seems to have helped bring more players to my game and has motivated me to put more effort into Roblox development again. Not that I have that many players, but it has at least doubled since this sort went into effect.

I know Recommended For You isn’t perfect and you’re still working on better personalized game discovery, but I wanted to let you know that it’s working for some of us and I look forward to even more improvements!

Hey! This is another part of feedback of games appearing in my Recommended for You sort:
This time, I got recommended Adopt Me in my Recommended for You sort.
obrazek
I do not mean any offense to the creators nor the people that like Adopt Me, but I have never shown interest in any game similar to that. I have rarely played roleplay games and almost no games about adopting a baby, yet this shows up in my Recommended for You sort.
If I wanted to just play Adopt Me, I would have browsed the Popular sort as that’s where it shows up almost every day. Isn’t the Recommended for You sort intended for you to discover new games based on your play history, and not just a sort where the same old games appear, like the Popular sort?

Can we please get a button on the recommended games to see how did the algorithm determine to show me a certain game? I have seen Mad City, and now this.

I do not think a certain location would “affect” the recommended page. It just is a games that should interest you that you would want to play. A few days ago, the recommended page was hacked and the website was under maintenance for that reasoning. Hopefully the game categories will not get hacked again.

I dont mean to be off topic here bu I think that might be Pokemon Brick Bronze. Idk if you even played that before or games like that but ya.

RIP Pokemon Brick Bronze. You will always be the best game in our hearts. :sob:

No, it’s a clicking “simulator” game.

Oh…

Mission Failed. We will get next time.

Hi @Ondrashek06,
yes the idea is to show more novel content and not just popular games. No recommendation system is perfect and some games may appear that may not be relevant to you. What is important is whether the entire set is useful for you or not.

And we are constantly trying to make this better for you and all our users.

Hope that helps.

Now new games with low playercounts will get bigger, nice

Perhaps a mixed sort of purposeful Novel and also Popular content? Best of both worlds?

The sort is good in general :+1:

Well you played the game so it’s probably going be in your recommmended
