The description for each group is:
“List of developers who are specialized in (insert item here) on the Roblox platform.”
I do think it’s cool that now you can proudly show off the thing that you mostly do, however, I do think it’s going to go to abuse at some points where people are just gonna join every group for the sake of being in groups, rather than being the purpose of proudly showing what you do. Currently some of them don’t actually give you a name tag, but I imagine all of them will eventually. (Builder & Scripter both give name tags, all others don’t.)
Do you like this new addition to the DevForum, or do you think it’s going to more annoying than the good it helps do? Also, to add, there is still no New_Member Role Forever just gonna have to click on someone’s profile to find out for sure.
-Post Edited to change Scripters to Programmers and added Translators.-
It’s just semantics. Roblox has historically always called people who script on Roblox scripters (e.g. Scripters forum and Scripting Helpers), seems weird to change it now.
I love the change! I’m glad it seems like they considered everything, from pinging to which groups should display next to names.
I’ve seen building support questions in development support which the solution actually involves scripting, but it’s hard to figure out if the original poster even scripts. Now, if it says scripter next to their name, it feels more assuring breaking the news to them that it involves scripting.
I really hope anyone utilizing #development-support takes the time out to join the groups that apply to them, as it can help lots in providing solutions for them.
Hopefully there’s a public announcement about it soon where we can show our appreciation and give our input (for those who have any issues with it). Such a simple, yet very useful change.
People who script are referred to as Scripters to be more specific. Programming would be considered just more general, but Roblox’s division is specifically scripting.
