When I open one of my games and then close it some times it gets stuck on a white screen until I end the process in Task Manager, I believe it started happening after this update.
I like this new start page though, looks great!

Please allow the recent games list to be formatted more compactly like the other menus, with the sub-places expandable. I use the recent games list pretty heavily to work on games with multiple places, and currently there aren’t any ways to expand the places for the game that’s listed like there was with the old menu, which means that if I want to open a sub-place I have to find the game in my list. Or alternatively, at the very least I would appreciate a way to quickly jump to the page in the Experiences
tab. Not being able to open sub-places generally makes the home page not usable for me.
Additionally, please make the state of the Experiences
tab save similarly to how it did before. I might be misremembering but I believe that the selected group saved, and possibly the tab inside of the Experiences
view as well. Either way, I would appreciate this page opening back up to the place I had it in last, it would make switching between places/games under the same group easier which is generally fairly relevant to my workflow.
Overall, I like the look and feel of this UI, I much prefer the darker color scheme that it offers, I prefer the clean but simple design, and the performance is definitely far superior to the old start menu. Everything loads super fast and so far I haven’t experienced nearly as many problems as I used to, so I am pretty happy with this initially.
Edit: When viewing a large list of places I get some pretty hefty frame drops while its loading. It only seems to be when thumbnails are loading, so I think maybe its coming from updating all of the gradients, but I’m not too sure. I have a mid tier CPU, so I think these frame drops are probably way more noticeable on lower end hardware.
no idea if this has been reported/suggested already, but my filter doesn’t save. i’ve changed it to Date Created (Descending) and when i re-open studio, it’s on Last Modified. if this isn’t a bug, it would be a nice feature.
I have the same issue, hopefully they fix it soon!
Also, another thing that also bugs me is how inconsistent the padding and rounded corners are:
This image shows it really well&
It’s kind of the same with the “Private” tag too:
The heavy rounding makes it look a bit out of place, almost like it’s offset.
This is from it loading in the data afaik since there’s no caching atm. The gradients (skeleton loaders) have a non negligible performance cost, as shown in the universal app.
When I close a game file I get the topbar stuck on my screen. One time I had to reopen studio just because the part of the screen witch had the file button and the tools was blocked by a black cube.
I’m going to share this in hopes that it gets shared with the team this time instead of being outright ignored…
this popup scares me more than any damn horror movie I’ve seen
I second this. A favorites page or tagging system would significantly reduce the time it takes to sort through places.
We have a lot of cache and performance tweaks that weren’t able to be turned on yet. Give us a little time (like a week or so) and I promise it will keep getting better.
Correct. The TLDR is Friends is actually a per place setting while Public/Private are universe settings. So in the case of multiple places in a universe, it’s possible to have a mix of permissions. There’s also a discrepancy in how Studio handles this compared to Creator Dashboard.
We hope to make Friends a proper universe level value but then we have to figure out the right way to migrate existing experiences without breaking them. But there’s a team interested in solving this for the Activity Feed stuff sooner than later.
Hopefully that helps explain why it’s not as simple as it seems!
@pyxfluff nobody wants to kill that thing more than me.
But my idea I think is better than even a toast: just make a “Recovery” tab in the sidebar that shows any autosaves and lets you manage them from there. What do you think?
Kill it with fire
We successfully killed the giant blue “Refresh” button. This is next on my hit list.
That’s correct. We shipped with cache and quick loading logic but discovered there was some issues in production that we needed to fix. It should be on within the next week or so.
Yeah all kind of “first pass” rough edges stuff. The design team is highly focused on a standardized design system which will dictate more consistency and polish. So we are just in a slightly awkward time where we don’t want to over invest in tidying up what’s here now when we know a more permanent styling is on it’s way. That said, with the new styling system we should be able to tighten up what’s here without a ton of effort.
Thanks - I’ll make a ticket to be safe. Never worry about if it’s been suggested already!
Weird! If this happens again can you DM the logs to me?
Yes we are tracking this for both the quick recents and the dedicated recents view we’re still working on. My take is that it should just be a straight forward list of any place opened, regardless of sub place, local file, start place, etc.
That’s a nice solution, better than my original idea. Maybe you could have some sorta blue dot there with a number to indicate there are still games there but besides that thank you for finally listening
i wish it was a tracked statistic so i could see how many times i’ve said “no, i don’t want to open a recovery file from 2017”. would prob be in the thousands at this point
