Yikes! Your frustration is understandable but this is the first I’ve heard or seen this.
Can you DM logs? Are you doing anything funky with local flag overrides or mods?

- There’s an existing known issue with certain combination of Windows laptops with Nvidia DirectX drivers that will show “glitched” rendering. This does not affect functionality of the Start Page. One temporary fix may be a switch of Studio Graphics Mode to Vulkan
(Studio Settings > Rendering > General > Graphics Mode)
This will work for now but the old Start Page will get retired by EOY. The old code is so bad it’s causes hangs even though we aren’t actively using it.
That’s okay, I think the new page has gotten a lot better recently, I’ve been observing faster loading times. Just some improvements are needed.
I’m not sure if I’m spilling beans here (so keep it between us! ) but we will be making progress on community/third party templates sooner than later.
It was one of many motivating factors for getting a more flexible and dynamic Start Page UI established.
Something quick you guys could add would be a refresh button. So far if any place is removed/added within a category said place/places will not update unless you leave and enter the category back. A simple refresh button and/or key would help!
Paul actually implied it was a goal of theirs to remove the refresh button, for some reason. Was a little confused when I saw this so definitely would be nice to get some insight here.
Also FYI they’re planning to remove the refreshing on tab click, the goal is to have it cache so there’ll essentially be no way to refresh the games list without restarting Studio soon. Can’t find the post for this right now but I believe Paul mentioned it somewhere in here, hopefully he can confirm.
On the contrary to all of this, I guess there’d be very little use cases for a “refresh” button now, considering the chances of a developer being in Studio and then creating a new place from the Creator Hub whilst they’re there are low. And also the other use case for the button–refreshing in the event of a failed load–will likely become redundant as I’m sure the new UI will handle this case more gracefully.
I mean yeah, i was thinking that a refresh button is probably something not really that important since you can still refresh by switching tabs so its whatever. Just thought a refresh button would be a bit more convenient.
not one to ask for much but can we please have a list sort option on the home page, the games i work on have subplaces that act as the development area, so right now the current way to get to them is go to the experiences tab, go to the group, find game, then enter the subplace
Before the continue sort was allowed to be list, but now it cant
We are really close to releasing the new Recents view that will show all of your most recently opened places (subplaces too) with a much longer history than the current quick recents. Our plan in the new year is to allow for pinning on that view too.
But we’ll keep looking at how we can add more convenient sorting and filtering too!
We’ve not really embraced more modern pub-sub and push updating. It’s usually polling based which at our scale is kind of a nightmare. I think that’s probably why the Refresh button got there to begin with.
I’d love to see if you have multiple Studios open the Start Page just stays updated while you’re working. But that’s going to take some backend work to get there.
This new start page is completely fine, i like it, the only problems i have with it is that when you enter the “Experiences” tab, you are automatically set to the “Recents” filter instead of the old “Date Created (Descending)”, which for me isn’t that necessary, since you can find the recent experiences in the “Home” tab, including the “See All” button. Another problem i have with it is the grid only supporting 6 games per line, as others have already said in this topic, it would be better if it supported 8 games per line.
Thanks for the notes!
We have a ticket to remember your last view and filter settings. In addition, we have a dedicated Recents view we are putting some finishing touches on which will allow you to have a much longer list view of most recently opened places.
The design team is still working on the overall design so I’ll mention the 8 slots suggestion.
Any updates on this? It’s been over a month and this has been annoying since day 1. The functionality of the start page took a massive hit for professional developers. And there’s nothing we could do about it (use beta features maybe next time?).
My team manages multiple projects, with sub-places, spread over multiple groups. It’s literally a nightmare to navigate this every time we have to open anything.
Yes it’s a priority to get out this month but cache performance is the higher priority currently.
We have one working that we were going to try and get out quickly but it was having issues with timestamps. The team is also working to get it show actual child places instead of only the top level place (which is weirdly not straight forward to do)
Great, those were the only things i was confused in the new studio page, thank you!
Love the design refresh for the most part, I’m excited for the future of it. Right now I have two main gripes when working with group experiences:
Adding group icons next to the group selection would be really useful, I’m spending a noticeable amount of time compared to the previous start screen scrolling through my groups to find the one I need.
Once I’ve opened/edited a place in a group I’d also love if that group was moved to the top of the dropdown list as I’m much more likely to edit that one. People I work with often create new experiences for the purpose of testing new features before merging into the main game and discovering these takes more effort compared to the previous design.
Thanks for the notes!
We are still working on a dedicated Recents view that we believe will be the go-to for navigating frequently edited places. Early next year we will also be working on the ability to pin places. I really want us to remove as much friction as we reasonably can for getting in and out of place files.
