New Studio Start Page

i mean, yeah its good UI, i will miss the old UI but a refresh is pretty nice

Woahh, that is very in-my-face. Personally not a fan.
I think the grid views will be cool when added, but until then I’ll just have to keep searching for the revert switch
Because it felt like I just got flashbanged when I opened studio ;–;

:pensive: I should’ve kept studio and not reinstall it… I didn’t even get my plugins fixed for doing that.

I am not a big fan of this but I don’t hate as much as the ruler or the next gen ui either.
My only complaint is that the thumbnails/icons are a bit too big, I am used to the small ones the old UI had.

Ain’t the size different? I am not going insane right guys?

One more thing. Are we able to change the colors of the UI, cuz that blue button is lowkey ugly.

 thank you for making list mode work, too!

On this view I’d love to be able to see additional columns like “currently published version number”, “last saved version number” (i.e. in teamcreate you’re continuously saving, and may have saved up to version 1000, but your last publish version was say 900; being able to track that and see the dates each was sent out would be wonderful!)

Also, just for safety’s sake, it would be great to see favs/playercount etc. so that you would never accidently open the production copy of a game with 10k players, which happens to have a similar name to the version with 0 players that’s for testing.

“As a developer picking a place, I need strong context indicators so I know I am doing what I think I am doing”

Similar for “Shared with me”

Top devs get TONS of share invites - I’d love to know this, too:

  • Who invited me?
  • How am I invited? via a group role, direct personal access?
  • When was I invited? i.e. is this a 2 year old invite or a new one?
  • Am I friends with the inviter (for context!)
  • Have I ever opened the place?

Anyway, I love the clean new updated UI here! Thanks for doing this

Small bug: the “last edited” column appears to be showing the last time the EXPERIENCE/Universe was modified, NOT the last edit of the start place.

i.e. I open this place and save/publish it every day - I’d expect the “last edited” column here to basically always be some time within the last few hours at all times, but it’s actually listed as some time in 2022.

I just checked it out and I think it’s a really nice change to the UI, I also think adding the discover section was a really good idea!

Gave this thread a quick skim and didn’t see anything for this, my bad if it was already suggested

As a developer I spend a lot of time navigating through the start page menus/tabs to get into different place files and team creates. This becomes quite a time sink when you’re across multiple projects. The old start page had as similar level of click-depth required to get between places, with the “recent” tab being a massive time saver so long as you were continuing where you left off.

Has there been any thought into adding a favorites or tagging system? It would be awesome if we could mark places as a favorite or give them a project tag, and then those places show up in a dedicated tab on the start page.

These are great notes. Thanks!

Yes we will likely introduce the ability to pin places sooner than later. At a minimum on the Recents view (but it won’t be on the initial release of Recents)

If you had the ability to pin/favorite, would you assume it to be only for that local instance of Studio or would you expect it to be synced to your account? That’s a more complicated solution so I’m curious if people would want it.

Ahhh yeah that’s a good point. We may be limited by what the cloud APIs tell us but we’ll take a look.

I think account synced would be ideal, especially if pins/favorites came with types of pins/favorites. I wouldn’t have an issue if it was local to a computer though, in some ways that may even be preferred since there are places I’d never need to open on my laptop, but I would on my desktop.

:bangbang: A patch for the stuck loading issue has been deployed as of October 4 at 1pm PST. Please ensure you have updated to version 645.1 to get the fix and let us know if it resolves your issue.

Yeah I think it could go either way. As usual I think the real solution is to offer the choice but realistically we will probably do a first version local only to make sure the UX is sufficient.

Patch is fully out. Can you confirm you updated Studio and this fixes the issue for you?

I actually booted up Studio before you said this and had a patch downloaded. Upon opening the Experience, it works as expected. I’ll update if that changes for whatever reason.

Thank you for the fix!

Yes, this fixes my issue. Thank you!

Seems to be working fine so far.

Off topic from the studio start page, but when you bring up the new next gen UI, I am curious if you guys are going to add the collapsed version of the top UI like there is currently, it would be a huge improvement to the new studio UI if added, as since I have output on the bottom of my screen I get little space for the viewport when it is uncollapsed, ideally it could also put the tabs in the file bar only when collapsed as well as the quick access bar

I’m very pleased to hear that you guys are working on fixing these issues, I really think that this new UI could be better if these changes are done properly.
