Yes you can right click in the tab area to hide the ribbon or you can double click the tabs. It’s not our ideal interaction or even as good as the old UI collapsing but we wanted to get an option out there sooner than later.
I appreciate the improvements to the new Studio start page, but there are a few things that could enhance the experience:
I frequently switch between the same 2-3 groups, so having recent groups sorted at the top of the selector would be really helpful. Sub-places also aren’t showing in “Recent Experiences,” and since most of our development happens in sub-places, adding them here would save a lot of time. Finally, the scroll sensitivity for the group selector on macOS is too high. In the attached video, you can see that even the slightest movement on the trackpad causes excessive scrolling.
Yeah sub places in Recents got raised up yesterday and we’ll be adding it!
I’m not sure I quite follow on the recent groups suggestion. Would the sort be based on your recent place opens? So if you opened a place under “Sonar Studios” then that group would jump to the top of the dropdown?
Wondering if instead if the new Recents view (in progress but hopefully landing this month) had a way to organize by group might be even better. Maybe instead of a linear list of places, including sub places, there’s an option to group by… uh… group.
My main piece of feedback was asking for consistent access of what I’ve actually recently used. So if sub places are added to the recents page I would consider it resolved. I go between the same few places across two groups on a daily basis.
Yep, exactly.
Understood. One of my biggest takeaways from RDC conversations was just how much people hop from place to place and how limited our UI exposes child/sub places. There’s a few things already in the works that will make this better as a side effect but I’d love to eliminate as much friction here as possible.
Yes, absolutely. A way to remember our choices would absolutely be great for a lot of developers including me.
Not to be a buzz kill but the new Start Page is ugly and has way too much empty space, it would be fun if Roblox added their own userChrome.css/html code that I can edit and add my own things to this to make it look my way.
It seems with new UI rbxtemp:// files are not cleared properly when any of the place is opened and in some cases that’s leading to a big amount of images being loaded in memory.
What are these playability pills?
I guess youre right, In time I will come to accept the new start page and menu, I just dont like the empty space and prefer the classic look,
To whoever flagged my joke comment for no reason I dont understand why you did that
Honestly, I prefer the way the previous UI was set up.
There really was no need to change everything up, there was nothing to fix.
Updating the UI framework was a must yes, but the design change was not.
I also dont like the empty space lol, Eventually they’ll make it better. . . eventually
I haven’t encountered the issue so far today, although I didn’t check to see if Studio updated
Are you going to improve the startup “Logging in” screen too? Background color doesn’t match the new Studio start page
The update is really good, given the fact that it will continue to be refined and improved based on the experience of many users.
But I still have 1 question, which seems to have not been voiced anywhere:
In the video, you can see that the icon of my game is already loaded and displayed
But, for some reason, when I start loading a place, this icon is not displayed in the loading screen, before that I thought it was because of the too outdated roblox studio start page
But with the new update, I hope this small visual problem will be fixed (Because now it should be easier for you)
Hell yes, thank you for mentioning this. It irks me because most of the time it never ends up loading at all and it’d look so much nicer if it did. (Although I’m pretty sure this is a separate feature to the new start page UI)
I’m not sure if there’s a reason they chose to fetch the icon again (if the code for this is even implemented—it doesn’t ever load for me so I’m questioning whether it is) over just displaying the already-loaded place icon from the list view.
What’s wrong with the new one, it’s the same just a different layout and probably even easier to use and more organized!
Nice update! Though it would be really cool if you could just get rid of the topbar completely
UI looks great, definitely better than the previous start page. About time it had an update.
