New Terrain and Parts Built-In Materials - Release Build

There were changes made to sand to improve its look in low light, it looks like similar changes need to be done for concrete as well then.

Hooray! The baked-in color will be removed and we’ll have decent color control!

im confused with something about this update (or maybe im probably not reading much on what the update is about)
what will parts with the old materials look like when the new materials come out soon

will the old materials still be shown on the part until a person changes it or will it automatically change into a new material thats similar to an older one

like for example, if i used wood planks on a part, when the update comes it’ll automatically change to the new version of wood planks

btw ill miss the old materials since ive gotten used to those

i had to make this reply again since my other one didnt do so well

I’m glad to see that new materials are being designed with studs in mind.

If you’re adding new textures, consider adding an actual stud texture—I use it a lot to match the classic-ish aesthetic of my game and it’d be nice to not have to use legacy surfaces to obtain the effect.

Is the materials going to be forced on everyone? Please answer us.

nobody asked for you to replace them… nobody wants it either

There isn’t a clear source of getting the old textures, you can’t download them freely. Yet.

There’s an API for the current materials (like current glass material to current wood material, I’ve used it before) so I don’t see how there wouldn’t be the ability to convert materials easily to custom materials. It would just take a while to change the more parts you have.

If you dig in the Roblox files, I’m pretty sure it’s there somewhere.

No-one asked for this to be replaced, Roblox is pushing out features that not many people really want or asked for, rather then fixing issues or listening to the community.

This should be an option for each game, not every developer wants this enabled.

“Dig” and “somewhere” are pretty accurate words to depict how easy it is to make your imagination come true :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks a lot, will be using this.

It looks like Roblox forgot that back then people used the sand texture for beds. :man_facepalming:

Okie dokie! Thanks. Will look into this.

Most people using the sand texture, weren’t using it because it looked like sand or snow!

Am I the only one actually happy about this update?

Won’t help. Textures in mass will cause a metric ton of lag, I know from experience.

No, I’m happy about it too. Changing some textures shouldn’t be hard.

i honestly feel like the old materials are better, and less plastic looking and smooth. some terrain look nice but on older builds, its kinda weird

i don’t know personally i dont really love the update and i am sort of dreading its release
