Roblox is insanely worse optimized than any other game engine, for example, when I open Unity and go onto a project with high graphic settings and clean meshes but when I open studio on a small-ish game the fps goes down a decent amount.
@Sorcus I am SOOO concerned that when I lower the graphics level BY AT LEAST one unit, the graphics deteriorate TOO MUCH. Why is it getting worse so much? Regarding the new textures… They are good, but only on the maximum graphics settings
The old DiamondPlate was designed to look good without IBL as FiB phase 3 didn’t exist back then. However the new DiamondPlate is designed to take full advantage of IBL which, apparently, causes a sacrifice in visual quality when IBL is turned down. I agree that Roblox should try to get the best of both worlds here.
It’s most definitely intentional, old materials do that too and it doesn’t occur in real life either.
Yeah… I messed around with lighting settings to see each separate texture tile more clearly, and they don’t change size in the first place by the looks of it - it’s just that the previous slate material tiled so well you couldn’t notice this
I cant wait until this comes out officially
Don’t forget about all the other games which are incompatible with it.
I think they’re gonna not force it, but give the option to choose between the both! Now you have something to look forwards to
Erm, I thought they fixed this a while back.
I put the materials into the Roblox Folders, but it appears marble is having the tiling issue again.
Edit: This is v1.5
Nothing is confirmed, so take it with a huge grain of salt. Roblox usually sticks to their guns with an update like this.
Pretty sure he was complaining that he COULDN’T use the updated textures sooner.
I think not, I think he was complaining about he can’t use it on the games he wanted to use it on, since it isn’t forced anymore
I know, but this is probably the most reliable and accurate response or solution. I don’t think anything else would compare. And yes, people would still be upset if they completely removed the new materials.
Why would anyone be complaining about an update not being forced? If anything this would be good because it gives people a choice. Also you can’t really make the argument, “No because (he thought that) these materials aren’t going to come to Roblox anymore,” because Roblox would be throwing away almost a year of work which would be very costly.
Another instance of this looking correct. As proven by this image, it doesn’t look bad, it just needs to be optionable.
I think the reflections should be balanced more, too. The way light reflects on the metal looks bad, just too much.
This happens with every material. It’s because you added it incorrectly in the client one. Theres a couple of scripts in the folder which fixes this issue. Without it, you’ll see that. Just replace the entire texture folder with the new texture folder in the new build.
There shouldn’t be an “option”, the current materials should just simply be included alongside the new ones if Roblox just has to replace the current ones because some out of touch head honcho in a board meeting said it’s time to replace them. I’ve said it many times and I will continue to say it; 50 more megabytes worth of texture files (and making the Roblox mobile app take 1 - 5 more minutes to download) is a much better “”“trade off”"" than having bottom of the barrel ‘new’ materials shoved down our throats that look nearly identical to someone editing a stock Google image to be repeating.
I find it interesting that they even used storage or memory as an excuse because literally OP says that after the update they plan to continue adding new materials, which, logically, would create the same issue as just keeping the old ones and adding the new ones.
Not that I’m against continuously releasing new materials. Please do. Please also keep old materials.
But not nearly as much if they kept the old ones. The old material folder is around 100mb. The current one is also around 100mb. Which means 200mb would be used for materials. Since they want to add more materials, they probably would add roughly 30mb in total or 50mb of materials. Which means it would take up 230-250mb of materials in total. Without the old ones it would just take 130-150mb of materials, which isn’t nearly as big. But they could just stream the old materials like how it is with custom materials. Probably slower but its better then making games look how it wasn’t intended, and without having to make the application size bigger.
That’s what I did. I checked to make sure I did right and tried doing again and it still is not seamless. I copied everything from PlatformContent > pc > textures. Is there anything else I have to copy over from another folder?
