Next Gen Explorer Beta: Performance and Quality Improvements

I’m actually talking about a separate case – if I click and drag an item, I should be able to use my scroll wheel (on my physical mouse) to move the viewport up/down.
The reply you referenced appears to be discussing scrolling as you drag the instance to the top or bottom of the pane, which is a separate feature (albeit definitely also a bit broken).

Support. I don’t think that the Shift + Click behavior should be altered at all. Besides this, the new explorer seems pretty solid!

Did the ‘Select All Children’ and ‘Select Parent’ options get removed from the dropdowns? These are super useful actions that should definitely not be left out

Why did you place the plus button at the end? Do you want me to get tired while adding a module script for my data store script bruh? I dont want to run a marathon with my hand each time i want to add smth. And dont get me started on the plugins page.

Please fix it.

Attempting to pick an instance via any sort of instance based property will simply cancel out the instance pick process whenever you click on anything EXCEPT an instance available in the viewport.

No idea how I caused it but I cannot scroll in it after stopping a playtest. It didn’t send any errors, I just cannot scroll. I’ll have to turn it off for now.

This happened to me as well, I had to Collapse / Expand any instance’s hierarchy (or close Explorer or the Properties tab) to fix that.

Besides that, I ran into a few more issues:

  1. Next Gen Explorer Beta: Performance and Quality Improvements - #287 by XenoDenissboss1
(This references the post above your comment)
  2. Deleting / Duplicating using keybinds (Del, Ctrl + D) sometimes doesn’t work, this is when I had Explorer “merged” with the Properties tab.
  3. Explorer doesn’t automatically scroll up whenever you hover to the top while holding an instance.

Other than that, the Explorer UI is pretty cool! Though for now I’ll stay with the old Explorer until these issues are fixed.

Also seeing this, pressing the del key does not do anything.

When right-clicking on a script tab in the editor and selecting “Show in Explorer,” the script is highlighted in the file explorer but does not bring the file explorer window into focus.

I prefer using “Show in Explorer” followed by pressing backspace to quickly delete scripts I no longer need. However, since the script editor remains in focus, pressing backspace only deletes text where the cursor is positioned instead of removing the script file.

Alongside not focusing the file in explorer, even when it is focused (clicking the file manually while in the script editor) most of the keybinds seem to be broken aswell.

It aint that bad I like the new look but its so annoying when it breaks e.g it keeps removing things like folders or scripts and u gotta restart studio to get them back hope it gets fixed had to turn it off for now

I’d like to see a right-click context for instances selected within the Workspace. A “Show In Explorer” option to expand and select it within the explorer, which would be useful when you have “Expand hierarchy when selecting” disabled (and perhaps this “Show In Explorer” right-click context could be hidden when that setting is not disabled). Additionally, there could be a hotkey to show the selected instance within the explorer (if that isn’t already a thing).

I love this new editor but there are some Major things/Bugs that just keep happening.

  • Its Extremeley Difficult to Scroll Whilst Selecting A Part
  • You Cannot Copy Anything Whilst In A script
  • Gaint, Weird Spacings

In Terms Of Looks Its Great! Sometimes the lines can get messy but i dont want to remove them i just want to minimize them a bit.

Navigation could definitly be improved. is there even a select All children/Parents option?
Hopefully they get fixed soon because i really prefer this new editor.

My StarterGui seems to be hiding from me. I just quickly entered the game to test something then returned to see that it just disappeared.

No “Save as Local Plugin…”? I don’t know if it’s just hidden or is it actually not in this Context Menu?

We’re tracking this, and will make sure they get added ASAP!

This will also be brought back ASAP. Some context menu actions fell by the wayside, our apologies on that!

When using the explorer search bar, some items are removed in the explorer and cannot be viewed again until restarting.

In addition to the much needed improvements it would be highly beneficial to have search results that are more tailored to the specific parent and service an instance is being added to.

For example, in the scenario shown, instances like TextLabel or other relevant UI elements should be prioritized and appear at the top of the list, rather than showing unrelated options.

I think there are several steps in the right direction in this update, but I cant help but find the new top bar extremely clunky. The point of the top bar is to be functional, not aesthetically pleasing. This rearrangement is especially noticeable on smaller screens.

Here are the issues I take with it:

  • There is no way to collapse the new context menu, being replaced by buttons that were never needed before, and being pushed down another level.
  • The new menu is significantly thicker when opened.
  • The new menu does not automatically collapse when I am finished with it.
  • There is less information in a larger space, which simply is not how this UI should be designed.

Again, Roblox Studio is a development program, it is not meant to be streamlined. Roblox Studio, when I started using it in 2018, was already dumbed down enough for an 11 year old me to learn and create with. Redesigning the bar to look like this seems like pandering to kids, and not accommodating for actual developers.

Please keep this optional, or let me collapse the top bar, to the same or similar degree as I always could.
