not a fan of how you are unable to scroll when dragging and are instead forced to move it to the bottom for it to auto scroll. it’s really hard to control and i’d like the option to scroll manually instead of the weird drag and drop auto scroll
This has already been fixed. As of yesterday you can scroll while dragging the same as you could in the old Explorer.
When I press F2, it should rename the selected object no matter where I am. It’s quite annoying having to refocus the explorer to name something after I click on it while navigating around, and F2 only serves as a rename button.
One difference between old UI and new and is probably a glitch is when setting parent and when you don’t select a proper object it will just set the parent to nil.
In the old UI you had to click on an object in the explorer for it to change. If you click on none instance UI it will not change.
Example: click on parent property so you have to click on something. Click on a different property like “Name” and the parent will become nil.
I experienced this recently.
Please consider moving “Save to Roblox” out of this dropdown. As a UGC Creator, I use this option very often and repeatedly and any additional steps slow down efficiency. I had this beta disabled for this very reason.
Scrolling up + down on the new explorer appears to cause the CPU render time to do a massive jump, which feels pretty awful, and in general framerate takes a significant hit when the new explorer is visible. I’m assuming that this isn’t Luau’s fault and is more just UI rendering overhead that’ll be squared away? Regardless it is significant enough that it was noticeable immediately after restarting studio.
Also DPI scaling is still unfixed, which I know was mentioned in the post, but really I feel like that should’ve been considered a very significant blocker to this having became “opt-out” in the first place.
Not to be all negative, I do like some parts of the new explorer, it generally does look better (on 1080p), and opening big folders does seem a bit faster. So here’s to hoping these issues will be fixed!
List of things that i think are must:
- Either remove or add an option to remove the descendants highlighting, its really annoying to figure out what i have selected, heres a screenshot: (or make it completely blue like the old)
- Cant delete objects while inside a script
- This has the same annoying glitch as the old explorer, where i would have to hold left control to scroll while dragging objects, otherwise it just doesnt scroll
inserting a model with alot of children (aka keyframes) then opening it with shift causes it to not be closeable until its finished loading (which takes a long time)
We have this one filed and hope to fix it in an upcoming release.
you cant scroll scan anymore, idk if this was even intended but it was super useful to scan out parts in a large map or scripts etc, please add it back!
old
The new Explorer doesn’t show the hidden thingies :(
Good catch, this is a very specific Windows behavior that it seems even Microsoft is trying to walk away from. I don’t see us reimplementing this specifically.
One thing I would note is that in the new explorer, you can press “F” to quickly jump back to your selection. Does that work for your use case? You can select something, scroll down to see what you want to look at, then press F to go back.
There’s also these that are missing
they’re not missing here
My settings are
the Hidden Objects are missing in the New Explorer
It’s nice the smooth scrolling was fixed. There’s still a few things preventing me from using the new explorer:
- The suboptimal text rendering of TextLabels. I have a 4k monitor @ 150% DPI scaling and the new text is a blurry mess compared to the Qt explorer
- This is probably something Roblox did not account for whatsoever, but in the above screenshot, you can see my Explorer is sorted differently than normal. The Vanilla 4 icon set offers a modified ReflectionMetadata.xml that changes how the explorer is sorted, and I grew very accustomed to that (as I personally believe it makes more sense); the new explorer does not support this behavior. Going back to how Roblox sorts the Explorer natively will be a bit of an adjustment.
This is just general feedback, but switching over to Luau for the explorer could be a good opportunity for Roblox to offer more customization for the Explorer. It’d be nice to see options for changing the size and padding used for elements.
Good stuff. Would appreciate some customization options regarding the scale and color of everything at least.
Overall i think the new explorer looks pretty neat. Not many complaints visual wise. Would appreciate if i could modify the colors between the selected object and its children.
Not sure how true this is. I am experiencing performance issues when doing anything with this new explorer. Framerate dropping into 30-40 range. From what ive seen the performance issues get worse the bigger the explorer window is.
Here is a worst case example of that:
i disagree. for most users, save/export options are not used commonly, so compressing those options inside a dropdown helps organizing the menu better. before, it had a lot of buttons, so much that, for me, covered most of my screen, and a lot of these buttons weren’t used commonly, like the save/export options as i said, and the insert/hierarchy options - all of them which got compressed into dropdowns for the sake of organization
If you need it so fast and so often, have you considered giving it a hotkey?
Some things feel really weird with the explorer, I already had to restart it a few times. One thing I’m noticing is that alt + click on a specifc part in a model isn’t moving the explorer to the location of that part on it and opening up the ancestry under the model to show it. I don’t know if that’s a setting or a bug.
I don’t have this problem.
