Next Gen Explorer now available for everyone!

Thanks for the feedback. While it’s not imminent, we want to make Explorer sorting more customizable in the future, so we hope to be able to solve for your use case soon!

Hey! If you have the “expand hierarchy when selecting” setting on, which is accessible through the 3 dot menu in the top right, then your explorer will move to the location of the part when you alt+click.

I am currently experiencing a really annoying bug with this new explorer.
Sometimes deleting the selected instance with the DELETE key randomly stops working

When this happens I must open a script and interact with it in order to fix the problem

I’m not getting any version number appended to “explorer” after closing all studio instances and re-opening studio

What are your difficulties with renaming?

Expanding based on clicking in the viewport is customizable via the “expand hierarchy when selecting” setting, accessible in the 3 dot menu at the top right of the explorer panel.

Some functionality is missing from the original.
If you’re in the middle of renaming an Instance name in the explorer, pressing up or down would confirm the change and then move the selection up or down respectively.

Currently nothing happens when you press up or down in this scenario.

The new explorer is really nice, but I can’t hold shift and select lots of parts at once, it only selects the parents of those parts (it never used to do this), and it’s infuriating… it takes so much longer to do stuff

Since this update, my studio has been so buggy and laggy aswell :frowning:

I’ve also been having these same sort of issues. It gets quite annoying have to select everything bit by bit and still be confused as to what is selected when all the children are highlighted.

Plugin Gui selection highlighting appears to be missing.

Old explorer:

Yup.

It turns out that the old Qt Explorer code was handling the Gui selection highlight for some reason and we didn’t realize that because the UI editor interface normally obscures it. :upside_down_face:

I have a fix for that, it will be fixed in the release on the 16th.

I’ve gotta say, I didn’t like the new explorer as much at first, but after using it for 30ish minutes doing some modeling I have changed my opinion. I’m really starting to like the new explorer.

There are a few issues for me rn such as can’t scroll when dragging an object, but selecting/deselecting objects is faster, the hierarchy when duplicating something feels smoother, and despite its at first generic modern slow-looking and bulky appearance, my current experience has shown me that it’s quite the opposite.

Hopefully the bugs can get fixed pretty quickly. Thank you for this update! :+1:

edit: just realized when dragging an instance to parent it, putting it between two instances causes it to parent to those instance’s parent. Idk how long this has been a feature but that’s cool

I don’t know if you can already do this, but I wish to remove the Hierarchy thing from it, I use all of that literally all the time and I wish to disable it. Same happens with pasting options.

A setting that allows us to disable those collapsing groups would be great. Maybe just right there in the new three dots.

:white_check_mark: Expand Insert
:white_check_mark: Expand Hierarchy
:white_check_mark: Expand Save/Exports

My only complaint about the new explorer is how the right click context menu is compressed.

Example:
Old Context menu:

New context menu:

Everything should be visible at once when accessing the context menu. Putting stuff in sub menus feels more suited for the File Menu since it’s not something you’ll access all the time.

This is great for smaller screens, or just people who prefer a compressed context menu, but I’d rather have everything be visible at a glance.

CTRL + C/V/D are inconsistent in their functionality by sometimes not functioning whatsoever, Its been like this since the start of the next gen explorer and is HEAVILY ruining my workflow.

Same for F2 for quick renaming of instances, it’ll work sometimes but then brick and I have to manually rename, it sometimes gets fixed after I do the manual rename, but its just too inconsistent. The problem has been carried over from the old explorer, and isn’t a computer problem, for I have switched computers 3 times with the exact same issue.

I do not know if this has been reported yet, but the <DEL> key doesn’t work to delete an instance when pressed. I even checked the shortcuts and it is there.

@vrs2210 Oh yeah, I’ve been having problems like this too. You know, it was REALLY smart of them to release a major update like this at the start of a weekend when nobody is working. So everything just breaks until they can look at it on Monday.

I’m going to look to see if I can turn it off for now.

EDIT:

Yep. They turned it on for everyone. Just go into Beta features to turn it off.

Simply just double click, it just expands.

Worry not, I’ll get used to it in no time.
